  • Anyone have a smart/easy way to track a 3d object in cam/screen space?

    I'm wanting to basically do this..

    Incidentally, the specific reason I want this, rather than just using the Q3DSprite, is that my Q3DRendering is being done at a lower resolution than my C2 Layouts. I want my HUD overlay to be super crisp, while my Q3DMaster is fine at a lower resolution.

    Details:

    I intended to do a combo Ludum Dare + Shmup Jam, but I haven't got round to the shmup bit yet. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

    It's Construct 2 (Created from scratch in the 48 hrs), a fair bit of photoshop time, some quick Sfxr, and a free pixel art font base "04b30".

    I started out going for Sonic(visually) meets Parodius.

    Things didn't quite work out the way I imagined. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

    Chuck milk bottles at the enemies to pacify them. Unconventional?

    Race through the course collecting stars,

    If you have enough speed your magic wings appear(usually) and you can launch into the sky for some 'would be' shmup action - maybe in the future. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

  • Grimbarian That's really cool! Nice replayability with the branching story, and the boss concept is a neat design. Lots of potential there.

    If you package it up into a zip you could easily put that in on the current ShmupJam page! We'll feature it on our list as well!

  • Hey all, there are still 2 days left to sneak in an entry on the

    ShmupJam 01.

    Plenty of time to bosh together a classically inspired Shmup!

    You could use the project ‘template: Top-down shooter’ to get you started..

    But, getting the basics down can be done from scratch with just a couple of sprites and behaviours.

    Would love to see a few more submissions showing some support for C2.

    We have dabbled in several prototypes with shmup mechanics so it will be a great opportunity to consolidate some of our designs and release some of the ideas.

    We have been wanting to start a thread that would be centered around best practices for creating Shmups, Shoot-em-ups, STGs etc.

    Would love to hear from people who have had a go at creating them, thoughts on best practices with C2 etc.

    Also we have a Game Jam (of sorts) running all the way through 2015.

    Jam Idea

    We hope this will be the first jam of many focused on shmup creation.

    For the first jam the theme is the origins of the genre - think Space Invaders, Galaxian etc.

    This is to start us off easy as we consider an attempt at a shmup a month for 2015.

    There is a little more information on the jam page.

    The rules are fairly open for this jam.. it's not really a competition, just for fun.

    Create something retro looking, modernise a classic.. If you find yourself with a free weekend, perhaps simplicity could be the key to getting in a quick submission.

    You have a whole month per jam, so plenty of time.

    If you are into this genre, or simply just want to give it a go, we'd love to see you there.

    You might also check out our Shmup community over on deviant art the Shmuproom, which has all kinds of inspiration on it too.

    please forgive the blatant promotion.

    We are steadily growing a shmup related group on deviant art.

    I'm really hoping we can encourage more development of new shmups and bring some more players into the group for feedback and encouragement too.

    We are considering starting some articles, posts and community projects specifically targeting shmup development in Construct 2. We would love to hear from anyone willing to share open source or discussion on development in this genre with C2.

    This project does have a huge amount of large image data (a requirement of our current brief).

    -edit.. just read this..

    "If you choose None for the PNG recompression setting on export, the color counting and PNGCrush steps are skipped."

    Setting this to "None" reduced the export time to under 5 mins!

    You just saved us a whole lot of wasted time in these test builds!
