  • Yeah, I did that too.

But I thought this was a common thing.

That's cause you're such a pro. Persona FTW!

  • Good to know! Gmscript looks pretty easy to understand, it's shame anything higher than that gives me sweats! I didn't realise it came with a built-in dialog editor, I though you needed a separate asset for that?

Yeah GML is pretty easy compared to C#. It's just kinda pointless though when you can do more with Unity. Adventure Creator allows you to write simple dialog interactions right in the editor. It's basic obviously, so of course if you want to have more control and complicated stuff, you'll want to do that with a separate asset or do your own stuff with json or xml.

  • Are your properties bars and stuff missing? If so, go to Menu, View, Bars and then select the ones you need. You can then drag them to locations in the UI and dock them. If you do see them and can't use anything, then I'm unsure of what the problem is.

  • They have said a few times now that the limitation is to squash bugs quicker. They will then open up all the features in the eighth week so everyone can go all out and do final testing.

Tom i hope the latest chrome limitation is only for beta? I am one version behind on one machine, and cannot run Construct.

Are you one version behind on purpose? You can easily update it unless you're worried about breaking something.

  • I've mentioned, at length, the up-coming competition's features that will rival C3, but it grated on some members, so I won't repeat.

I think it was just the repetitiveness of it that wore thin Seriously though, the competition does deserve checking out. You should always look at the competition. You should never box yourself in. You as in everyone, not you personally Zebbi

A developer friend and I looked at GM2 for a while before deciding against it. It came down to GML. Why learn a new language for GM2 when I already know C# for Unity? The drag and drop feature is nice, but it's not that great. The extra cost for exporting was also a kill shot as I can export for free to any platform in Unity.

I checked out Fusion3 also since I own Fusion 2.4. Again, same problem as before. So basically, it came down to Unity for major production at little to no cost and Construct for rapid prototyping and quick results when wanting to knock out a smaller 2D game with ease. It's important to check out and to try everything that you can before making a decision. C3 is an evolution of C2. That's the point of it. It's growing, it'll change over time and everyone has the option to evolve with it for what it's worth and for what it brings to them and their development needs.

  • Before you get all fidgety, make sure you have your beta survival gear in order:

    - all possible game controllers, charged and checked

    - updated chrome/chromium

    - windows update done, if on windows

    - kernel and microcode updates in order (if on linux)

    - large box of chocolates

    - a generous supply of Hot Pockets (or similar)

    - a six pack of good beers

    - another six pack, just to be sure

    - aspirine

    - adult diapers (no going to the loo for a while)

    - umbrella

    - gas mask

    - a copy of The Holy Bible (in case something goes wrong)

    - a copy of the noble Quran (in case something goes VERY wrong)

    - a copy of the Talmud (better safe than sorry)

    - internet connection up and running, firewall not too tight

    - keyboard detoxed, cookie crumbs mopped up

    - cardboard box, in case you have a cat that needs to be kept busy

Ahh, how did you get on with it Bleenx ? I've been dying to give it a go, but Unity scares the hell out of me. Does it require any programming? Can playmaker be strapped to it to help with visual scripting?

I wish Unity had HiDPI support for those of us running Windows at 1920x1080 :/

Yep, the HiDPI support would be nice for me as well, but it's something they're working on. Apparently it's easier to implement on Mac than Windows.

As for Adventure Creator, it's dead easy. Basically, if you follow those tutorials, you'll be able to do what you want. You can also use Playmaker with it, as well as any other Unity plugin. You don't NEED to program with it. Even for text-based things or dialogue, you can use the Adventure Creator UI to add that, but realistically and for ease of use, it does help if you bite the bullet and learn C#.

You don't have to go balls to the wall and learn it all as if you're programming some applications for Windows PCs. Just C# for Unity is good enough. Follow a few tutorials online, get the gist of it, and then go from there. Truthfully, there's probably a free script already written for what you'd want anyway online. So it's not like you really have to learn C# as if your life depended on it, unless you're wanting to become a developer for a studio.

  • Can we use Construct 3 for Adventure Games and Visual Novel creation, or is oriented like previous version towards platforms etc. ?

You can, but it's going to take more than adding a few events to make it happen. Adventure Game Creator for Unity. That's all I have to say about making those kinda games. Of course, it's still nice to know a bit of programming to help you. If you're against that, stick with your current software.

  • Game jam stuff with Newgrounds. Nice. https://www.scirra.com/blog/201/constru ... newgrounds

That's the greatest line I've ever read on this forum.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Looked it up. It's Motel 6. I think that's why I couldn't remember it. I purposely blocked it from memory.

Hah, yeah, I have a few hotel memories I'd like to block too.

Been there done that lol. Had a backpack with bags of pool filter sand. I'm a total introvert though so I got a power rack for Christmas. Squat Stands before that. Just Craigslist it all. $300-500 will get you the basics (bench, rack, weights, barbell ) which is all you need really.

You will make gains with what you have though, just not as significant or in a quick fashion.

Pool sand! Yeah that's even better... Definitely will check out the deals on Craigslist, thanks
