  • Awesome! Yeah let me know when you get it happening :)

Great! I look forward to seeing how it all works.

Perhaps this is worth posting elsewhere in the forum, but an added incentive to get this working is that Open Sound Control could be used to control a Construct 2 game with Wii remotes and Kinect sensors!!

    Hi there,

thanks, that's very kind of you! So are you saying that I could use Flash with flosc as an alternative to Construct 2, or that there may be a way to get Construct 2 to communicate with a Flash/flosc application?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Thanks for that. I don't really know much about that kind of thing -- how would I set up something like that? Is it very difficult to do?

    Kyatric

Is this going to be built into Construct 2 in the future?

  • Does anyone know how plausible it would be have a way to send/receive Open Sound Control data dynamically from a Construct 2 game?

e.g. Having UDP send and receives like in Max/MSP and PD -- with a user-definable port number

    Cheers!

thanks for that, webstorage looks interesting for other purposes, but doesn't look like I can use it to write data into or out of Construct for use by another application, if I understand correctly?

But good to know that a framework for save games is there!

thanks, that's exactly the answer I'm looking for. Sounds like it's beyond my skills at this point, but maybe someone will come up with a plugin in the future

    cheers!

  • Thanks Joe -- do you know if there would be any issues dynamically updating the xml or json to a Construct 2 game in my DropBox, and then having it dynamically loaded?

Or is there any other better way to write to simple data lists that can be read from a Construct 2 game?

If it was just on a single computer, no problem, but online I don't know how this works

  • The Visitation is a simple work of randomizing poetry. It is continually generated out of a series of grammatically ordered arrays of words and phrases.

    The Visitation

[note it will glitch out in the current version of Chrome, so best to use Firefox]

    Enjoy!

  • Just wondering if there is a way to read an XML file that is being continually updated by another application.

I'd like to use Max/MSP to keep re-writing an XML file with data that I can read into a Construct 2 game which would have to keep re-reading the data to register the changes.

    Any ideas?

I agree -- once someone creates a full synthesis / effects processing system for Construct 2 the potential for instrument design will be incredible!

I'm hoping someone finds a way to incorporate libPD or some Max equivalent so we can control patches from Construct's event sheets.

  • Thanks for your kind feedback guys. I'm looking at developing it in chapters so it doesn't blow out into an unmanageably large project as can easily happen with games when working solo.

I envisage that each chapter could be totally unique in terms of gameplay mechanics, story, audio systems, colour schemes, etc, but I'll see how time goes and if collaborators emerge.

I should add also that Starquake by Stephen Crow was a big influence :)

  • This is a game / musical instrument developed in Construct 2.

You can read about it and play it here...

    Banquet of Souls

  • Thanks guys -- that's what I suspected. I reckon theres a lot of potential for designers to use it to at least prototype the basic visual and interactivity elements though...

maybe one day -- when the divide between games and websites is well and truly demolished :)

  • Hi guys,

This may seem like a silly question to web-design gurus, but I'm curious as to the limitations of designing full websites in Construct 2.

As a graphic designer, this would be a brilliant way to layout everything exactly as it should be, and get all kinds of audio-visual interaction designs happening smoothly.

If I built a whole site in Construct 2, what would be the technical limitations? I'm thinking of things like:

    -search engines

    -embedding content like videos etc

    -forums

    -e-commerce, etc

    Cheers!
