  • Great thread. Also waiting for a way to publish on xbox one. My game has been approved as an IDadt@Xbox title for a long time now and I still haven't been able to publish due to the missing xbox live plugin features. However my game actually runs pretty well on xbox one and I get almost solid 60fps, but it is a pixel game so that might explain it.

  • The easiest way is to have sprites as spawners instead of a layer with image points and just place these invisible spawners where you want them and do the following:

    Every X seconds

---spawner is NOT overlapping spawned family

    ---pick random spawner

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> spawn family object

That only picks one of the spawners that is not overlapping a sprite from your family. No need for variables or anything complicated. A simple yet effective method And if the spawned sprite is destroyed later the spawner will be able to spawn a new one again.

  • What?

Doesn't the Construct 2 manual say that construct loads everything before you can even start the game? Meaning no matter how many layouts you have they will all be loaded by the time you can play the first layout.

And from there how long can it take to load things into memory. I've never experienced any jerkiness when switching layouts

    From the manual:

"Construct 2 only loads the images for the current layout. This avoids loading the entire project in memory which would be slow and consume a great deal of memory. When starting a layout, all images for the objects placed in the Layout View are pre-loaded. This includes all frames in all animations of any Sprite objects. (In other words, Sprites are either fully loaded in to memory, or not at all - they are never part-loaded.) When the layout ends, all images that are loaded but not used on the next layout are released from memory."

My guess is that you haven't done any asset heavy projects yet but for us who do stutter and long loading times between layouts is a big big issue. But as I said easily solved now with the possiblity to preload exactly what you want.

And you don't have to put all assets on one layout as newt said. You can load exactly what you want however you want.

  • shinkan Please write a tutorial on how to preload several layouts which results in zero transition time between layouts and no initial lag and how to make that "with just a few events". That would be a very interesting read as it is not possible in C2. At least not without this plugin

Anyway, I really recommend the plugin for anyone who is serious about making games for a living and don' want to have to worry about long and laggy transitions between layouts.

I'll leave it here and let the thread go back on topic.

    Rable

I use Toby's preloader plugin which makes it easy to preload what you need and get rid of that initial jank forever <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

  • It was just regular effects like adjust hsl, and brightness and stuff like that. But not many and I didn't overuse them at all. Integrated graphic cards are a nightmare and doesn't seem to handle effects well and I had no idea so many people used it until I released my game I have exactly the same problem on unity with image effects so it isn't just c2/c3.

But I really like working in construct and for me it doesn't really matter. As I said, I can easily make it look the way I want without using effects.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I try to avoid using all kinds of effects these days. My current project doesn't use a single effect and it runs really well on even low end PCs with full HD assets. However as soon as I add a few effects it starts lagging a lot on some of them. Even on some good computers as well.

My other game for example ran good on all my test computers but when I released it on Steam I realized that this wasn't the case for tons of users. So I removed the effects in my game and now I haven't had a performance issue report on steam in months.

So I avoid effects like the plague now It's not worth the risk imho. I use other techniques to achieve the look I want instead.

  • 1. There is no real limitation for an isometric game in C2/C3 but it is more complicated than a regular 2d sidescroller.

    2. Yes, you could do Hotline Miami in C2/C3. There is nothing in that game that C2/C3 can't do and would be pretty easy to make a perfect clone of if you know how to work in this engine.

    3. It depends on what server you use. All providers have their own limits. I use photon for all my multiplayer stuff.

    4. Yes you can, but there is no basic plugin for that so you'll have to make your own system and optimize it.

  • pervyboy You can easily make such a game. Just import your video files into C2 and show them where you want with the media plugin. As simple as it gets

  • Awesome Toby!

  • The file that you export out with nwjs and the file that starts your game.

  • The method in the post above is for changing C2 icons and not the nw.exe icon.

To change nw icon do this:

Download resource hacker. It is a free software that lets you edit files. Then right click on the nw.exe and open with resource hacker and there you can simply change the icon to whatever you want.

  • ErekT, well that sounds like a great feature for sure

  • ErekT Awesome job! I'll test it later

ultrafop False positives from anti viruses has been a nightmare for me on steam. A while back tons of users got my games exe file deleted as it was falsely flagged as a virus and they couldn't play it. But it's finally fixed and the nw.exe files are now white listed. I wonder if the same will happen to this launcher?

Does it get deleted every time?

  • ErekT I tried setting the monitor resolution manually and you were right. It scales exactly the same way as your launcher so there was no issue
