• Hey no prob. I figured i share since people on this forum are so generous with there time and talents. Im gonna make a post on all the cool links i found on gamasutra in the game design section.

  • I also found an article on gamasutra explaining racing and track mechanics. Anyone can check it out if your interested. I think its pretty interesting. Before i read it i thought racing games weren't really planned design wise.

  • wow this is simply amazing. I guess i have no excuse to not making a racing game. For the laps one could just add a variable that increases on every hit. 3 hits = race complete. But how would you calculate position. Like 1st, second, third?

The reason i ask is because last semester i was talking to my instructor on how hard would it be to make a racing game in UDK. He said it would be rather challenging. I think i could examine the AI and some how make the scorpian in UDK a competitive race enemy.

    Good stuff.

  • beastly tutorial. I think i wanna use this for something.

  • Great tutorial. This really helped. At first i was like "this is too complicated", but then i tried removing the tags and followed your instructions. Thanks.

  • That's awesome. Great fun sprites.

  • I need to go to one. Some really good games can get made in a short amount of time.

  • Game play 110%

A game could look like dirt but still be fun. On the other hand good graphics or an interesting art style can lure people in. For example i downloaded bastion on steam and it is so pretty. I mean ive played many rpg type games but this one has such a vast array of new art concepts that it is simply astounding.

So as a designer you kinda have to strive for the in between. Something that has a cool game play mechanic while looking somewhat decent.

  • Thank you inkBot. Sounds like it could work. Definitely gonna try it.

  • i guess i have to tell it not to on the title event sheet somehow.

  • i think every tick is whats running it on game start up.

  • Won't work. I want to do something like, on start of layout (allow every tick). But every tick is a condition not an action unfortunately.

  • I am almost finished with my game called "The legend of Bloo". Its a 1 minute game where you have to save as many cows as you can.

While finishing up i ran in to a couple of problems. I solved most of them with work around but i still don't know why my timer is starting at the title screen.

I have a countdown timer but it plays during the title screen and HowTo menu. The thing is my countdown event is on the actual level not the title. Why would it start before i even get to the level?

    Really weird.

Any help would be great. I will also mention everyone who helped me on my project in the description.

    Thank you
