  • Awesome Russian horror game for the PC. Currently there is no english release of the game, but there are subtitle translations you can download and patch into the game.

Highly recommended if you like horror games!

The game takes place on a wrecked ice breaker ship near the north pole. The mysterious "cold" is taking over the ship and it's undead inhabitants and the only way to end it all is to restore heat to the ship!

Check out the official website: http://www.cryostasis-game.com/

You can also download the Cryostasis Tech Demo through Gamespot, to see if your computer can handle it! Using the newly released Nvidia PhysX technology, you will need a reasonably high end nvidia card to play.

Tech Demo can be downloaded from here: GAMESPOT DOWNLOAD

Lastly, here are some schmexy screenshots for you to drool over

  • yeah it's a good game but for me it's a bit slow, anemic...personaly i think Dead Space was better.

  • Judging from the name, is it anything to do with Crysis or Crytek?

Man, GPU technology is getting so damn powerful my head spins when I think of what it'll be like in 10 years.

Yeah it's a slower paced game, but personally I feel that for a true horror/thriller game it's the only way to be. It really makes you jump out of your seat! If the enemies were flying at you fast and furious, it wouldn't be scary in my opinion. Dead Space was also a killer game

Not sure if it uses the cryengine or not? I think it could even be coincedental, since it runs WAY faster than Crysis, looks better, AND has PhysX support... there's no way this could be using that dodgy engine unless they rewrote it and fixed it properly.

This is the first of games you will see that use the PhysX stuff... maybe Construct will use PhysX technology in the future as well? This would make the physics behaviour even more awesome since you could have 100x the objects without the "collapse" thing that happens.

hey did fix it, in Crysis Warhead.

Cryostasis uses an engine called AtmosFear, which is pretty damn nice.

I do admire the use of the water physics, but it just doesn't look real enough yet. Too blobby and thick looking, doesn't look good enough to take on the faked particle effects of games like Bioshock yet. However, I do think this is an early version of something that will be commonplace in the future, with physics loads being taken off the CPU and onto the powerful modern GPUs.

Even Warhead runs like poop compared to Cryostasis... and still doesn't look as good.

I agree the water effects are a little "blobby" but considering what they are trying to pull off it looks very convincing overall. It does tend to look a little "mercury-like" when it's landing on dry ground... it needs to dissipate a little more or something.

And yes, you are right about this being more commonplace on games. Nvidia only JUST released the proper PhysX support control in the latest drivers. If you have an Nvidia 8xxx or 2xx series card, then I highly recommend you get the newest drivers if you haven't already.

Also, I think it would be a really good idea for the dev team to take a little look into the whole PhysX thing... I'm no programmer, but it is apparantly VERY easy to implement since all of the coding is modular, and doesn't require intense physics systems programming (since it's all built in!).
