Good video editor for trailers?

Maybe this isn't the right place to post this, but I'm curious of anyone here knows a good video editing software that can help you put out HQ videos for game trailers or just footage of your game. I made a trailer with windows movie maker (a bad idea), using footage recorded off of fraps, and it's heavily compressed the moment it gets imported into movie maker. The videos from fraps are crisp and fluid, whereas movie makers turns them blurry and choppy.

I was wondering if it might be due to a low quality codec, but I'm not a video editing expert. I've played with MM limited settings and still end up with the same result, if anyone has suggestions I look forward to hearing them!

Run, don't walk over to the Blackmagic site and download Davinci Resolve lite version. It is insanely good and a very high end app, as it is mostly a colour grading solution, but the video editing features are fine for basic use. The new version is out any day now, and will have major new features added to its editing toolset...so good in fact that it will take a lot of market share from Premiere, Finalcut and Vegas. I have been using Vegas professionally for many years and will be moving over to it , once it is released. The free version is not hobbled much at all!

Other free options are Lightworks, which has been used on hundreds of feature films and Blender which has a basic non-linear editor:

The cut down version of Vegas is also quite nice along with Hitfilm express if you are looking for low priced basic editors.

Thanks guys! I'm going to give Light Works a go first, it reminds me of Adobe Premiere a few years ago, and I loved working with that before I lost my CDs and Computer.

Premiere is now a subscription thing so you can pay for it month to month if you don't need it that much. I think they have reduced rates, too, if you happen to be a student.

They may still be offering it, or have a cheap price on it. Nothing like after effects or Nuke but it will do for basic compositions.

I'm also use Windows Movie Maker to make trailers for my games. It isn't advanced actually. But maybe you can use VideoLAN Movie Creator.

I don't know what you guys use to edit video but, as for my experience, a bunch of free video editing software actually doing a great job. Here are some of them Windows Movie Maker, VLC Media Player, videos-converter.net/video-editor Filmora Video Editor( not free), VirtualDub, Wax, Moviestorm,etc. Here is the list of top 10 free Windows video editing software.

I quit windows movie maker long time ago. I'm not an expert either. I just do some editing on family videos. So I googled something. CyberLink PowerDirector 14 Deluxe and Filmora are handy. Sometimes I use wondershare an wonderfox. They can do not only movie editing but video conversion. The latter are handy. But I'll let you to judge. I just enjoy making family movies and do some conversion from avi to mpg or ds to mp4. After that I can upload it to YouTube.

I am using VSDC Free Video Editor, it is a free tool to edit video and even finish file conversion, I love it because it can convert VPROJ to MP4, no other video editor can do that
