  • Edit 28032013: I've uploaded my examples and game source codes from the past few years as well, download it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4714446/Jayjays%20Examples.zip

A while back Newton from PacktPub came on the forums looking for some people to help write a book on CC, I ended up going for it. Having nearly finished it, the book is going up for pre-order. I figured I'll mention it here since they have a sale going on this October, so it's a good time to check it out.

This book is to teach a total beginner the basics of making games in Construct Classic, as well as implement a few more difficult features like level saving/loading/editing.

I don't want to make this an advertisement, so if you're interested in knowing some more about it, you can take a look at the store page.

Thanks to Yann for being my reviewer <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle">

    Edit: It's published now! <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle"> - May 19th 2012

Free sample chapter (Chapter 2) is downloadable here

Although the chapter sample is black and white, I can confirm the eBook is in color.

There is also a color sample of a more advanced chapter in the article here

Also, the book is based on Construct Classic r1.2, but the example files will work with the latest Construct Classic R2 release

  • Congrats on finishing the book Jayjay.

Where can I find the review? I might buy the ebook version, but I'd like to quick scroll through few pages first or read the review.

  • Ditto...should definitely get a positive review going for you so the book isn't as much as a mystery. And congrats as well!!

  • Heh, I have about 3 chapters to go, but I think they're going to pre-release the chapters that are done with the ebook.

Unfortunately it hasn't been reviewed yet beyond the help Yann is giving me, but again that's because it's still finishing up. I'll see if they can do a few pages to read through.

  • Wow I had no idea you were doing this.

    Awesome stuff JayJay :D

    ~Sol

  • Thanks Sol =]

  • Wow, cool thing.

A beginner's guide in this way will be very helpful. This must have been a complex work and I hope you get attention for it.

    <font size="1">(shouldn't 'Scirra construct' be written 'Scirra Construct'? <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> )</font>

  • Still in discussion with the publisher about preview pages.

Thanks Schoening, I hope you like it, and feel free to pm me if you want any extra help =] I think that date might only be for the e-book version, with the full printed copy coming afterward though.

Heh, you probably know everything I have to teach Mipey <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Noga sved, I can confirm the book is coming out before the end of this month now.

It will have an article with samples from one of the advanced chapters, and a full sampler of chapter 2, which teaches the reader the beginnings of a Mario/Sonic style game.

  • Hello, i have posted an article in the french community website, thank you to your job.

  • Thanks squale! You can also link to the free sample chapter here
