  • Hi, I am following the tutorials in another post, but i have a question: how do you prepare the characters, are all made with scirra or another program, i can provide a tutorial on how to do this?

    PD: i do not graphic design <img src="smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I create my characters with Zbrush or Blender. Then i render the animations with Daz3d.There are lot's of free 2d character apps out there as well.

  • Hm, I've heard of Zbrush, but I've only ever seen it used for sculpting 3D models.I'd also be interested in a tutorial on using it for 2D.

I use Graphicsgale and at times, Gimp.

Graphicsgale is very good for what you might call "Pixel art". It's nice and straight forward, and best of all: free. If you're just getting started with drawing characters, I recommend tracing over old sprites (Such as 2D Mario or Link etc.) to start off, it really helps you out.

Gimp is like a free version of Photoshop, with many of the same features.

  • Blender is a Great Program!

  • hello david.

I'm a very beginner spriter. at this moment I'm making the sprites tracing stickman like figure (palito man) and then tracing the body over the stickman.

is pretty lenghty work, but it comes out pretty neat.

  • Try Construct 3

  • I use GraphicsGale. It's pretty neat once you get used to it. Also, do as Jim15 said and draw over existing sprites. It DOES help a lot getting started.

Also, the stickman thingy Keitou suggested is also good for beginners, mostly helpful at animations if you're making a character from start and not drawing over other sprites.
