Gunner 4 'the fangame'

    ive created the following game called Gunner 4 in which you run through a mutant laboratory killing anything you can find. No story is included yet and its in a early beta stage.

    Is Gunner 4 somehow related to Gunner 3 or Gunner 4 'Shadow of Blood'? Well its not another game in the original Gunner series but they truly inspired me in making this game. And as you will notice most of the images are just copied from the original (hope i don?t break any copyrights...). I would say its just a game by a Gunner 3 player who thought 8 levels weren?t enough.

    Walk backwards: right + left

    Shoot Up: Control + Up

    Shoot Down: Control + Down

    Jump: Shift

    Walk: -> and <-

    Shoot: Control

    Of course there are many bugs but it should be playable...

    Would be great if someone could test it and report his impressions on the gameplay etc.

  • The game controls well but I found myself just rushing past most of the enemies rather than trying to kill them. I took less damage that way.

    I'm not familiar with the Gunner series so I'm just going to say that this is an average platformer so far. It's not bad... it just doesn't really stand out much(the ability to aim up is a nice addition).

    You're off to a good start, though. I guess if I had played any of the previous Gunner titles I could give you better feedback.

    And as you will notice most of the images are just copied from the original (hope i don?t break any copyrights...)

    Well, actually you do. I guess you should have asked KNPMASTER if it was okay to use the graphics or at least you shouldn't pass this off as GUNNER 4. "GUNNER the fangame" or something along the lines would be more suitable, since you're not the original creator of the GUNNER series.

    As far as your beta goes: It's a solid start, but why don't you try to improve on certain things. I always thought the way shooting diagonally was handled in GUNNER is very weird. Why not make it properly with different animations for each angle? I'd like to see that.

    I thought it's OK to rip sprites as long as you don't plan to sell them or call them your own if they aren't? ofcourse gaining permission is always better then simply steal them tough.

    Added/chanched a few things this afternoon:

    • A multi weapon system (3 weapons so far. You can find them in caves which are hidden behind non-solid sprites like in the orig. Gunner. If you dont find them press F8 and F9 to get teleportet into them...)
    • The first boss monster which behaves like the boss from gunner 3 level 3. (You have to hit him by the head there is no explosion animation for this yet but otherwise he wount get damage...)
    • The Charakter now looses health faster wich should make killing enemies more worth it. The increased difficulty should be compensated by the new and stronger weapons.
