Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • I cannot access this game I've been working on forever, it was working when I made it before, but then I pulled out my flash drive, tried again, and now I get an error with the .cap...

Error Loading: Expecting CEditorParam() but received ().

And the .exe throws "Error loading application, reinstalling may fix this."

But my other .cap files work!!!

    Any help?

  • Did you keep backups? Construct can't really protect you against yanking out your flash drive while it's saving to it - you might have simply cut off the file from being written half way through the save, corrupting the file. I hope you kept backups!

  • No, I didn't keep backups....

...but the thing is, I ejected the flash drive before I took it out, so corruption shouldn't happen, right?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Hmm, you're right, it shouldn't have cut off the write. Can you send me the .cap then?

I'm afraid you're currently learning the hard way that you should keep backups!

  • You can never be too paranoid about backing up things. I have Construct's auto-backup, I copy my game folder to a hard drive on my home network, and also copy it to a USB memory I keep in my keychain.

I also carved out a cave by the beach where I etch into the wall the binary that makes up all the game files.

But what about erosion? Personally I transmit the data into space, so that if something crashes I can just get into my FTL spaceship and catch up with the transmissions.

What about meteorites and asteroids? No data is safe anywhere. Just stick it in you head. But personally I keep it all in the internet (Mediafire/Rapidshare) because internet cannot be broken. If it does, then internet gone = world destruction.

But on to the topic, it should be a lesson that we back up our files almost every time we are done working on it on a daily basis, like keep it in 3 different folders or upload it somewhere.

  • I always just use my time machine and stop the corrupting of my project. Yeah... you all don't go far enough.

    Me too. It's called SVN.
