  • This works when I'm installing on other machines. However, it requires an internet connection, so if you want the (larger) offline setup you can get it here.

Could these 2 links be included in a future release of CC, when exporting an exe file or setup-file, for the end user?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • That would be a nice idea, although most people already have DX. In the meanwhile, there are other setup creators you can use, such as Install Creator (http://www.clickteam.com/website/usa/install-creator.html).

  • CC's exports are supposed to give a user the option to click a button and it will open the MS page in their browser, but apparently that page has changed.

  • How about adding an option to type a custom url when you export? This way you can update the downloading page yourself.

That'd be too easy for a malicious program to be made in Construct that sends them to dangerous sites. The unknowing user would blame Construct/Scirra.

Edit: Assuming that an unknowing user would be one that does not have a moderately new version of DirectX 9.

Given the hundreds of other malicious things someone could do that wouldn't be filtered by the antivirus?

I guess, although it'd mean that every once in a while the popup would be dangerous. A constant threat is better than a random/unknown one.

  • It's kinda dumb, now that I think about it. To download the setup for no-net PCs you would need internet, rendering it useless. The other one is ok, tough.

found this article when searching for methods of solving the directx requirements for construct classic.

maybe its possible to include a minimum version of the construct required directx files with a silent install. (Small Installation Packages, Launch setup in silent mode)

there are games that have included the required .dlls only in their install, but that is some sort of a more risky way legally from what ive read. although this would be the most effective i guess.

as ive seen that many people are developing high quality games with cc and thinking of distributing, i would like to suggest that we would find a way to include a silent minimum install package in either the exporter or a streamlined way to integrate it afterwards.

what are the exact required files to make games run on an outdated machine, which directx update is the minimum which have to be included with a silent install ? so the filesize and the os and driver requirements can remain as small as possible.

an internet link is not a solution for distributed games imo.

  • I've seen somewhere that construct games only need d3dx9_something.dll and the xaudio one if you're using it, so we're able to make a setup containing only those? That be awesome.

I don't think Microsoft allow the redistribution of just the dll files, I have no evidence either way, but it would explain why developers so far have only included redistributable installations.

  • Oh, i meant making the setup with minimal files as explained on MSDN.
