  • Even with the alphabetical order in the event wizard it takes me a little while to find things. The object list with no ordering at all is quite a lot harder to use. Just wondering if anything like this could be helpful to others.

  • Whats with the ads on the shoes? Anyway, yeah, I'm having trouble with the object list too. But for me, I'm just managing, although if it can be changed for the better, why not.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Just to clear this point:

The object list is ordered. Z-ordered. The back object being the top one and the front object being the bottom one.

That said, at least some sort of grouping, for instance to reflect the layers would be nice.

  • You can name your objects "Txt_Menutext", INI_X", "MKB_X", "Sprt_Arrow" and the same with the rest, so all the objects you highlighted in red, are ordered by object name.

  • Have you tried using the search box? Just hitting a few of the letters of the object name you're after should filter down the list pretty quickly and make it easy to find what you're looking for.

  • Huh, I thought you could set groups for objects using the object folder setting in the properties, but it doesn't seem to work. I guess it's an unfinished feature. You can sort the objects in the object bar by right clicking it.

  • Arima, it does work but you need to add object folders from the project tab.

  • Ah, thanks for pointing that out.

  • Tulamide - Oh. I don't know how useful z-sorting the objects list is for you, but it really doesn't have any functional use for me, and I can't really think of one, considering all instances are at different z-orders anyway.

Simul810 - Very good point, I have got some objects named well like that, but definitely a way around the mess.

Ashley - I do use the search box, it is most definitely a help finding objects.

Arima+ROJOhound - Bingo, so it is in there Good to know, I have not really ventured into the project tab beyond layouts, events sheets and globals, so I will investigate this.

So it seems grouping the event objects is in already.

Still think a different ordering on the object list would be infinitely more helpful than Z ordering however!

I don't really like making these posts, but being on the other side of the world from the rest of the Scirra user base I can hardly catch anyone awake in Chat. Not to mention the wealth of information that is laid down in the forum will be there for when I need to search for a refresher further down the track.

I didn't say if it's useful. I just wanted to point out that the list is not unordered. I for one would like to have the choice how to order the list. The z-order only comes in handy sometimes, if you need to place an object to a specific z-position. Most of the time I would prefer a type and name order.

  • I think it might have been missed, I mentioned you can arrange objects alphabetically by right clicking the object bar.

You can also click the object bar then start typing to select an object as well.

Hmm, are we talking of the same object list? Both tips don't work for me (no matter which version of Construct)

  • I'm talking about the object bar that's to the right of the properties, the one that's listed in the ribbon as home>bars>objects.

  • Oh my, you CAN order it alphabetically. You need to click inside the object window. Oh man, AND you can make the Icons small!

Don't know, what your problem is, but you should work on it...no need for arrogance here...or let's just wait until YOUR next issue
