  • Is there anything I can do to repair a project from r320?

Construct 420.2 tells me it's not a valid c3p project. It does open and run within 320.

The error in the browser console points to a problem with a PNG within the project (see below).

Opening the project file as a ZIP file, I checked all the PNGs within it - the problematic file exists, and can be opened without error, as do the rest of them. If it's useful, that PNG is the first file listed in the list of all PNGs.

    Thank you for any help!

EDIT — It won't open in any version from r389 onward

  • Hard to say... You could try increasing the version gradually. Open it in r350 and save -> r380 and save -> r400...... perhaps that kind of works out.

  • Good idea!

The file won't open in any version from r389 onward. That's even if I save it in r388 and try it in 389.

The release notes talk about invalid file names starting with blank spaces, but the file path it's missing doesn't contain any spaces...

  • Send the project to ashleyabk@scirra.com and I'll take a look. We want to make sure Construct can always open older projects, or if some compatibility change has prevented it opening, at least show you a useful error message indicating what that is.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Thanks very much - I'll send that over now!

  • I received the project and it is indeed that there is an invalid name that starts with a space - it's the animation name " Bombed6" in object "BoardDoor". The easiest way to fix this is probably to open it in r388, rename the animation to not have a space at the start, save the project, and then reopen it in a newer release.

There is a special error message meant for cases like this (linking to this guide) but it wasn't shown for animations, so I've fixed that for the next release.

  • Hey, thanks very much! I really appreciate it! It didn't occur to me to look beyond the file in the error message... jeez.
