Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • I am curious if anyone is using android tablet or iPad to work on their Construct game. Yesterday I was in one IT store and I tried to run Construct on iPad mini 6. Looks surprisingly okay, despite small 8" screen size events don't look cramped. Is anyone running C3 on a tablet and do you see any pros/cons with that workflow?

  • I tried but touch interface is way to inconvinient for this kind of work. It's ok for balancing, changing some vars, maybe a bit of level design, but doing actual logic is so slow I couldn't get into it. However with additional mouse and keyboard it will be just like on pc, which is really awesome. Not a lot of engines offer such mobility

  • I do when I am on the train or commuting. Mostly just double checking stuff. It is hard to work without a keyboard.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • psychoanima winkr7 I tried it on my Android 10", but I find it a bit hard to change anything without a mouse. I do have a keyboard for my tablet. You could buy one of those tablet cases that come with a keyboard, which connect to the tablet with Bluetooth for example.

I did buy a small USB-C mouse (fits in the charger port of the tablet) and a small mousemat for it but haven't tested with that setup yet. I really only program on PC. Much larger screen, bigger and faster everything!

But in the sense of portability, a tablet case with keyboard and a mouse, or even a wireless pen mouse (a pen mouse can make use of almost any small surface) could do the trick for you.

I did notice you can't really do much in the layout editor though, the side bars are missing or are they accessed elsewhere? It's kinda crucial to be able to check instance variables and object properties when programming.

  • I have used it a bit on an ipad. It works fine imo, but for any serious "hardcore" dev I absolutely prefer using a PC or Laptop.

You have to swipe in from the side a few times

  • You have to swipe in from the side a few times

Isn't that a standard swipe already used to go back and forth in your browser? Or is there a handle that allows you to swipe it in?

  • I use C3, from time to time on my Chromebook (with detachable keyboard), but I use a mouse. I don't know how well it would work if I used the keyboard's touchpad or if I removed the keyboard and just used the tablet part with my finger. It would probably drive me mad.

  • I feel like the aspect of being able to load C3 on a phone or tablet is just nothing but a gimmick. It's really cool to see my games open in C3 on my phone, but it's already asking too much of a phone to even run a even some basic games you can make in C3, let alone trying to make a game on a phone. I figure this is only really intended with tablets in mind, but... like C3 is really great, don't get me wrong, it's just trying to do game development on a touch screen device is something I'd probably only do if I went to hell and was given the worst possible punishment based on my life.

  • I’ve been using my iPad Pro and aim to test it by completing a full fledged game in it, so far the only issue I have is I’m so used to mouse and keyboard and sometimes I will add them in if I have a big dev session but ultimately I’m having a blast using it in my iPad Pro

  • I almost could see myself doing some event sheet view stuff on my phone in portrait mode.

I just wish they could add a quick and dirty "drag events" for touch devices. Maybe like the leftmost 32 pixels acts as a "drag event block" to touch input, and touching anywhere else on an event block could behave as it currently does.

Besides that, and after switching to a keyboard without auto-correct, the event sheet view is actually really usable on a phone!

  • I ended up buying Surface Go 3 tablet with detachable keyboard. This way I have access to other Windows apps I am using parallel with construct.

  • I'm currently trying this on a 1st gen iPad Pro. Took a while to find all the sidebars rolled on top of each other hidden with swipes, but most of it seems relatively doable. Sure, it's a hassle trying to edit text, I'm finding the pencil useful for forcing text entry. Re-ordering events is rough and I cannot find the colour selector anywhere.

  • I do, somewhat regularly on my phone. Generally when I'm bored and stuck waiting somewhere but I have an idea I want to try or an easy quick problem to solve. Alternatively, I'll use it to experiment on a problem that has me stumped that's been on my mind.

My use case for C3 isn't exactly normal though and I wouldn't suggest it for any serious or heavy development session. A keyboard is too invaluable.
