Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to share that I'm helping launch a game jam for the site HighScoreWinsMoney.com

    Here is the Jam

    https://itch.io/jam/high-score-wins-money-jam

    Here are the details

HighScoreWinsMoney.com is a website that supports indie game devs and also pays out cash prizes to players daily.

You can read about what we are up to here.

    https://www.laptopmag.com/news/high-score-win-money-gives-new-game-developers-and-gamers-a-shot-at-winning-cash

Since we've launched we've got a lot of people asking to make games for the site so we decided for our next one it will be decided via a game jam!

The only constraint to the jam is that it must be built in Construct 3, other than that you can do whatever you want!

    Details

Upload your submission and send us a playable link and the team at High Score Wins Money will select the winner. The chosen winner will receive $500 and then have two weeks to polish and work with the High Score Wins Money team to prep it for launch. Once it's live on the website you will receive the other $500 and it will be featured on the front page of HighScoreWinsMoney.com for a month.

The winner will have to submit the Construct 3 project files to send to our team to integrate with our high score system on the site.

    Ownership

All submissions are 100% owned by you the developer. If you want to build it out into a larger game or anything else later that's totally up to you. The only thing we require is the license to use your game on HighScoreWinsMoney.com for the agreed-upon time period.

What Kind of Game Should I Make?

It's really up to you but here are a few things we tend to look for specifically for HighScoreWinsMoney.com.

Pick up and play - Try to make the mechanics feel natural so there isn't a big need for instructions

Score focused - Whoever gets the high score wins the daily prize so you might want to consider having scores with lots of variations (for example not just going up increments of 1).

Mobile and desktop controls - Our players tend to play on both mobile devices and PC's. It's worth considering keeping the controls simple enough that it easily worked on both devices.

Replayability - Players on our site tend to stay a while and compete for high scores so considering little things like making it easy to start the game without a long intro screen or having skippable tutorials is always helpful.

I have a game that I have uploaded to codecanyon and other marketplaces, can I send my game to this game jam... ?

  • Sounds like a scam.

    It's not.

Maybe 10-100 participants submit finished games to you and you decide which one gets paid for their hard work?

Have you ever heard of a game jam?

At very least, a game needs a coder, sound artist and game artist. 3 jobs. Maybe someone can do all 3, but $1000 doesn't begin to cover the costs. You are basically asking everyone to spend their own time and money in hopes of recouping a fraction of the cost it takes to make a game. AND you want the project files.

    1. It sounds like you might be thinking of a AAA game. Which needs at least the crew you described and sometimes more. We are not talking about games that size. Here is an example of a game I made alone.

    2. We only want the source files of the winner who A) gets paid $1000 and B) will share in any ad revenue.

    Nope.

    Okay...

  • How many game jams have you joined Tiny Martian?

Lots of developers use the jams to get some notoriety.

Many indie developers join these jams simply because they like it.

Lots of other jams do not have rewards like this.

  • In all honesty, in my opinion, you're overreacting here ...

Going from some bad experiences you had as a kid, to calling people scammers and thieves, because you think you see red flags, is over the top.

Also, you realize, construct is a tool enabling a single person to do all the work for a game? Audio, video, mechanics, animations....

We literally have 1000's of developers doing just that.

And another thing ... who determines when a prize is sufficient enough for the time and energy put in?

The prizes are known up front, you can determine yourself how much time and effort you put in.

I see you don't want to debate this further, but it's a can of worms you opened yourself.

I think folks like you is why we have participation trophies.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Obviously this is by a "for profit" site, and the incentive to cheat by contestants is high, so enter at your own risk.

Also having to submit the project file is pretty sketchy.

  • Also having to submit the project file is pretty sketchy.

    2. We only want the source files of the winner who A) gets paid $1000 and B) will share in any ad revenue.

I read that as, they only want the source file of the winner. Not everyone who participated.

  • it's a scam

  • Seriously...

    A 10 year old account ...

    And a 7 year old account ...

Suddenly go about scamming folks ....

Yep ... sounds totally logical :/

    Any proof ?

  • is this the hill you want to die on because you submitted a game and want it to be true

  • is this the hill you want to die on because you submitted a game and want it to be true

    Say what?

Stop pretending you understand things ....

  • I’ve never heard of a gamejam where the winner has to give up their source code / project file.

Really comes off as “we are too cheap to hire an actual dev”.

    No thank you.

  • yeah let'S go kikiki u tell em how it is !!!
