  • Hey guys!

A WIP remake of the classic NES game Mega Man 2, made by SiksGames. If you can, test it out a little and report me any bug, weirdness on physics/movimentation or just tell me if you liked it so far or not! :)

    Controls:

Press to Jump. Sorry, no shooting or sliding in this version.

    Links updated on September 18:

    Dropbox Link (recomended right now)

    Lastest edit (September 18):

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I updated, huh? Well, life kinda gets in the way, bla bla bla.

    So.

When I first started to make this engine, it was just to learn really, about C2, game programming in general, performance and a few minor tweaks. I got much better at it all and I think this was the time to make a big project. I thought of this engine and why not remake the great classic that is Mega Man 2 for the NES? (specially now with the awesome announcement of Mighty No. 9)

But I never intended to make a carbon copy of the game. I ran into these awesome 8 bit Mega Man sprites from deviantArt user ~Availation and that is the art direction I want the characters to have (of course, with his full permission to xD), aside from slightly different game feel in general, considering it's an HTML5 game.

So, what's new in this new demo? Nothing much, nothing very exciting to see. I remade all Mega Man's animations and the game has the viewport of a NES game (which was completely incorrect in older versions). Also, I added some music and a title screen, because those tunes rock! And I really like that title screen too :P All that aside from the really low level aspects of the game itself.

Just a warning, I uploaded the game to Scirra Arcade, but I can't find a way to expand the viewport (kinda like the old Node-webkit problem from before r144) So, if anyone knows how to fix this, it'd be a great help! Anyway, just try it out on the DropBox link above, should work just fine.

    See ya!

  • I found a bug, when you slide under the platform, and jump.. well.. you fall down the screen

But this is a really good beggining, and I encourage you to continue

Huh I thought I had that fixed? Maybe some another version, I don't know.

Anyway, thanks. I'll take a look at that. ;)

I will! Thanks for the support!

  • It's pretty slick so far, I gotta admit!

Though, if you hit the up arrow, Mega Man does a little hop.

  • Yeah that happened with a last minute change to post here, but it's fixed already ;)

Next update will probably be stairs implementation.

  • pretty neat even though I can't jump <img src="smileys/smiley18.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Can't jump? Now that's weird. You are pressing the correct button right?

not bug so far Imo, to make so megaman Slide with 2 buttons, you can check if down is pressed, then in a sub event, on S clicked, and in this subEvent, you put your sliding actions

You would also have to v?rifie, for the jumping, than down is NOT pressed

    Hope that will helps you

The problem is that I can't put two "trigger" conditions in the same event. We have two buttons: Down and S. The correct way would be like this:

    <img src="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78545260/MegaMan%20Engine/2.png" border="0" />

(The first event is the one I'm currently using in the playable demo)

The thing is: it just doesn't work. Mega Man simply jumps in this situation. I'll have to verify latter where exactly is the problem to fix it.

Also, I'm posting a new demo right now, with:

    (1) a somewhat buggy ladder. It works fine most of the time, the bug is when you are climbing it and then you press S to leave it while overlapping the floor. When on a ladder, the red floor disables it's Solid behavior, and enables it back when not a ladder. Thing is, when the player is "crushed" by the floor, it causes some glitches. Is there any way I can check this "chushing"?

    (2) shooting, though I'm having trouble with the image point, for some reason it is not working right now... Also, no animations though. Those are gonna be tricky...

They are both very incomplete, but I'm working on them.

    That's pretty much it. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • New update!

Shooting is done! Just need some minor tweaks.

Animation is NOT being given much work right now, I'm focusing on the moviment mechanics. Next is probably the screen transition thing.

Check the Scirra Arcade link above!

    See ya!

  • Great

any chance to see the capx?

  • Thanks! And I'm sorry, but no.

As I mentioned in the first post, I will make the .capx downloadable, and I encourage you all to make it better or more convinient to your games or tests when it's done. But right now, this is something I want to finish for myself.

Also, I wouldn't want to have people using different and buggy versions of this engine. I want this to be the easiest (being C2) and best way to make a Mega Man based game you can find on the internet.

Sorry if it seems selfish, but I really want to feel like I could do a great engine on my own, of a game that I really like. It's been my dream to make a Mega Man X game since I was a kid, and this dream started to be possible a few months ago.

I might make a post with some ideas I had while developing Mega Man's movement mechanichs though.

  • Cool, not bad. ;)

  • It's pretty well done so far, I look forward to seeing you progress with it further.
