Sprites for games

What softwares do you use for drawing sprites?Do you get free sprites from elsewhere?If so please provide the web link.

Opengameart.org for some free art. I actually just released a free tileset there: opengameart.org/content/rpg-tileset

I use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create my own art. Gimp is a decent free alternative. If you want to do simple pixel art there are a million editors out there, you can google it.

You imagine / visualise them .. and either draw some concept art and go from there, or send your concept art to someone who knows what to do with it.

Selecting images from free resource sites is great at first ....

But try and find all the stuff that makes a cohesive game ... for free ... I can almost garuantee you that you will never be satisfied ... stuff dont match, things dont add up etc etc ...

If you have ideas for a good game, its generally best to either do your own graphics, or get someone involved to do it for you.

It's also a good idea to study classic games to see how they did it. With a bit of study, you can see how big they made the actual sprites, and how they did the animations.

Also, I draw mine with a Wacom tablet in Photoshop.
