  • hi again ^^

    today i have a question i don't know if i could give you capx, because i don't have it yet i just wanna know is this idea easy or not and i can do it or not ^^

    the idea is that i have a player he has a way to move! and there is a point if the player overlapped it a monster will follow the player but this all are easy but how can i make the monster follow the road that the player should move on it?

    see a picture and maybe the idea will be easier

    player = yellow, monster = red, road = brown , overlapped point = cyan.

    <img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/29p3dc4.png" border="0" />

    if you could do it , tell me how and thanks ill try to do xcaps for these if needed , ( im busy in making sprites that why ) ...

    thanks for reading,helping,listening to me ^^

  • heh heh. This isn't exactly what you describe, but it is kind of fun to play with!

    The monster has a "feeler" pinned to it. If the feeler isn't over the road the monster can't move. The monster always turns towards the player, and when the player trips the trigger (overlapped point) the the monster starts following the player--as long as its feeler is overlapping the road!

    MonsterTag.capx

    EDIT 1: Right now the monster is set to move forward 5 pixels every tick, but if you dial that down to just 1 pixel, the monster actually follows the road pretty closely, so it is almost exactly what you were asking about.

    EDIT 2: You would make the monster's feeler invisible in the finished game, of course.

    hmm i don't know but the file is not working in construct2.

  • zsangerous: yes the file is working in construct2.

    Maybe the file wasn't up when you tried, or maybe you need the r85 version to use it.

    If it has a problem, it should raise a dialog on start, with informations about what the problem is.

    Read those informations, and eventualy post them here so we can figure out what's going wrong.

    is there another version after c85 beta??

    because the file not working with no error message o.o

    the file looks like this :

    <img src="http://i39.tinypic.com/swzfdl.jpg" border="0" />

    is there something to do??

  • I was able to download and run it. Sometimes when capx files download they are treated as compressed (zipped) folders. If that happens you would extract them to an uncompressed folder and then run.

    Here are some pictures to show what I did. First the layout. Note that the feeler object has a pin behavior. The player object has a scroll to and an 8-way behavior set to 4 directions only. The monster has a boolean instance variable Following.

    And the events:

    Apparently you renamed the file to a ".capx-" extension.

    Remove the final "-", it should work.

  • i really don't know if this from my computer or what but really i didn't rename it also i tried to change it and nathing happen see the picture from chrome

    <img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/juk1sj.jpg" border="0" />

  • Well you have an option somewhere that adds "-" to this file you downloaded.

    And you don't know how to modify the name of a file in your operating system, once it's stored on the harddrive ?

    I'm sorry, but there is a minimal knowledge in computer that is to be known before even considering making games. This will help you a lot.

    Unfortunately, I can't give you a link, I don't know a good beginner tutorial about computers and files managements in english. Have a look on google "how to rename files in " and the name of your OS.

    i don't know any option that add "-" to any file o.o because all the other capx works fine and im using chrome.

    i really don't know sometimes when i download capx it comes like the one in the picture named with "cap" with out "x" and it will not work too.. seems ill try to find a way to change these things and finish it.

    by the way thanks for the help and informations ^^

  • My file was downloaded here with the .capx~ extension too. In other links with .capxs it worked fine, very odd.

    I'd suspect the download error to come from chrome.

    I downloaded from the link with FF, and no problem whatsoever.

    Also, .cap files are Construct Classic files possibly, and are not compatible with C2.

    So if you download a .cap file, you probably got it from the "wrong" forum ^^

  • It's working for me, but maybe there are some hidden characters in the URL that kyatric and my OS ignores. I got a new dropbox link and pasted it in, so you might try once more.

    MonsterTag.capx

  • kittiewan: generaly, indeed, I tend to ignore invisible characters, and pretend they are not even there.

    <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Kyatric: I used to ignore them too, but right around the time I started hearing the radio signal through my dental fillings I realized that was probably a misguided and possibly dangerous thing to do.

    zsangerous and sheepy: Seriously, there could be characters like a space that don't show up for me but get changed to something else for you (like %20 which gets changed to who knows what. So I made sure the new link is as trimmed as I can get it. What operating system are you using? I'm using Win 7.

    BTW, I used Construct 2 R84 for the example.
