Is it possible to somehow set an object to be "solid" in regards to mouse-clicks, meaning that you wouldn't be able to click "through" this object and can therefore use it to cover other objects from being clicked. This is otherwise default behaviour in web / flash development...

Perhaps you could check if the "solid" object is colliding with another object. If that question is true, then nothing happens to the object below it. Just a thought, try it out

Adding an inverted overlapping condition to your click events will work.
