Suggestion (Notes)

  • It would be nice if a basic text editor could be implemented in Construct 2. For small games, i think its ideal to just quickly type some notes or outline a rough design doc when starting with a blank project file. It could be a fixed tab called "Notes" where the event tabs are. It can also guide beginners into doing good habits, by writing a plan before roughing game mechanics.

This can save having to have a separate text file, and make construct 2 a even better all around game making tool.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Personally, I'd really rather if time and effort were not wasted on implementing this rather than actual features, improvements and bug-fixes.

We already have the (much more flexible) option of using any text editor or even more sophisticated software for planning and note-taking rather than having an editor included in Construct 2.

  • As far as you have a text editor on your machine and you can comment etc in the code itself, I don?t think that this is an urgent topic.

I disagree. Don't get me wrong, yes they could spend time on doing whats on top of the priority list. That i am not trying to change, but this feature i think its a good idea down the road, and fits with making the development environment more feature complete.

  • This is an old request.

User will be suggested to create plugins if they want type some code.

Again, the event + plugin system is perfect for me and my team member. I made plugins, and my team member used them.

  • When I need an associated text file for notes. I import a .txt file into the files section. That way I have notes now locked into the project. Then I get the advantage of using which ever editor I want.

    double win

  • Actually the Comment lines are quite robust for what they are.

To enter multiple lines in a Remark line, Shift Enter. Previous lines disappear temporarily, but show when you finish. If you open it again to edit, you can edit the whole multi-line passage.

I usually put my notes in my Global variable Event sheet, it's never that full. And always the same place when I look for them. But you could make your own event sheet.

I always have at least one "To Do" list, and 1 Error list.

I cut and paste old basic source code into them for reference when converting old games.

(my comments have been always been green, hard habit to break)

  • +1 It's not urgent but it'd still be a nice feature to have somewhere down the development road, especially for those without admin rights stuck having to use Notepad or something.
