Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • If I where to finish my game and had bought a license what would be the best way to sell it?

Also any estimate on when an update to add the ability to export to an exe ?

I tried searching the forums for these with no avail.

Edit: realized I wrote my question poorly

  • There's really no perfect answer to either question I'm afraid.

You'll find it difficult to sell a html5 game outright, as anybody can access the game once its on the net. You can do a few things like unlock certain parts when a user buys access using a code, or perhaps place the game on a page with adds.

Then there is no time frame for an exe, or even a guarantee that there will be one. All we know right now is an exporter will be possible when a development kit is released sometime in the future.

  • I think right now, if you want to sell your game the best route to go

is through the chrome store. C2 has the exporter, although you might have to implement some of the market API yourself.

Do you know how to add that market API to the interface. Im not sure how to do it.

  • I wonder why everyone thinks they can sell their game. Selling games in the casual market is extremely tough. First, the market is stuffed. Second, the games that make money, even if they look simple took hundreds of hours to make and over a year to playtest and perfect. Myself and two others are in the process of making a commercial Android game and cumulatively, by the end, all three of us will have put in at least 700 - 800 hundred hours. Just go to any mobile market and look at the top selling games they are amazing. They all have great graphics, great music, great sound effects, and great programming.

Get the game finished before you start worrying about making money. Once you have a great, commercially worthy game you'll be able to monetize it. I'd also recommend waiting for families before you start.

Remember: simple looking Plants vs Zombies took three years to make.

Sorry, can't help you there. But, I've found some links you can read.

Publishing your game to the Chrome webstore

If I'm reading this right, you don't need to do anything if you're using

    a packaged app.

    Chrome webstore documentation

This is Google's documentation about the webstore and its API.

    Hope this helps you out.

  • Thanks intrepid!

That is really straight forward. So it looks like you need to have some code on a server in order for this to work. It seems like it is really easy to implement which is great. Again I feel that the chrome web store will be the best way to make money in 2012.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

    No problem, but I'm pretty sure that's just for hosted apps. Here's that paragraph from the tutorial;

You can set up a one-time payment for packaged apps only. However, this won't work for hosted apps - the user could just visit the URL, and there's no good way to secure a javascript app like Construct 2 exports. However, if you have (or know someone with) experience with server-side scripting, it's possible to integrate the Web Store Licensing API. Since this requires server-side code it's not something Construct 2 can enable without the necessary server-side scripts - you must create those yourself.

So, if your app is under 10 mb, you don't have to host it, so no server-side scripting. If it's under 10 mb and you can package it, you don't need to do anything else on Construct2's side.

  • I cannot believe I missed that!

I am so excited that I can actually implement this!

  • Has anyone tried to make a game for the new up, and coming Windows 8 App Store? There running an App contest right now.

I haven't read over the official documentation yet but there must be a way to make games with Construct 2 for the new Windows App Store.

    New Windows Dev Center

It sure would be nice to have one of the first games on the Windows App Store even if you didn't win. Windows 8 is suppose to go into open beta in late February 2012.
