Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • I said cripped. As in, the free version is so cripped that you have to buy the paid version. In any case, if the paid version is over 100, I probably won't be buying. That's enough money for a computer part.

  • Don't forget:

    - Construct 1 is still being actively developed, the community has taken it under it's wings and theres a lot of work going on behind the scenes. The new website will fully support it

    - Construct 2 will have a free edition, for non commercial use

This is great to hear, thanks

PS. just saw the new community driven release of Construct Classic, great stuff!

For me it is pretty clear that the continuous work/upgrades/bug fixes/implementation will go to Construct 2. Otherwise they would have named Construct 2 to something else.

I really really hope the lead team have some better plans than this.

  • They just renamed construct 0.x to construct classic to differentiate them better.

  • Nice job that makes me a little bit happier.

Lets hope we see new versions coming to it also.

  • One came out yesterday.

  • I definitely think if a developer makes money off of something they made in construct they should have to pay, but I don't like the idea that users like me who just mess around with the program have to pay.

For 1 to Infinity --> there will be free version of the C2

  • scirra construct is not that much famous as gamemaker. make it commercial I am sure they will lose many users. I think If scirra developers wants to make money, they should have here some "donation" button. For example blender3d is really very professional 3d modeler and it works as GPL and I am sure it works because it is GPL. I believe If you use GPL software and it makes you money, it is your obligation to make donation.

And another question- from which country is scirra team? I mean If it really will be commercial, there are many problems for some EU users...

  • Why not instead of crippling a good idea, monetize the stuff around it. Construct is the engine let the engine be free. Don't put all work on a paid version but instead you could open up a market place for resources. Plugins, sprites, arts, services. Make everyone be able to make some money by letting people post their stuff for others to pay to have in their games. Then you can take some percent of the sale.

this. belive it or not but its actualy working. as a matter of fact i belive you will make the most money and gather the biggest amount of support and user-base following this method.

I can write a book about "why" but i dont have the time. instead, ill just say ive been working in games and softwere industry for quite a while.

If you would think for a moment, and look around, check how industry works i am sure you would come to the same opinion.

  • I am still not convinced if I will use construct for my game. I have some questions:

    1) Will be current construct classic r1.2 always GPL? I mean If I will create game with this version, I can sell it no matter when it will be released?

    2) Which country is develeper team? I mean if I want to make a donation, or in future buy construct2, to which country I will send money?

    3) Will be always here some GPL version of construct classic here, useable for commercial use?

    4) Where I can make donation? I didnt find any bank account number or paypal information.

  • 1) yes. This is now developed by some hardy user developers.

    2) UK and Australia mainly

    3) Construct classic will always be GPL

    4) In the text for Construct Classic, it mentions donating via 'Fundry' and mentions a box below the text, which I can't find (Tom?!?).

  • thanks much for great answers!

do you think that it will be possible to buy construct 2 from australia? or it will be from UK?

It will be very complicated for example for me if I buy software from EU country

Ashley or Tom would be better answering this, but I would think that if they go with one of the classics - eg PayPal - then it will be easier for non EU, hopefully <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

No, but we think it's better.

ake it commercial I am sure they will lose many users.

We'll still have a free edition.

think If scirra developers wants to make money, they should have here some "donation" button.

We had one for Construct Classic for about 4 years. Of course, we appreciate donations, but we typically got something like one donation a month. We'd like to work full-time on the project, and it's simply impossible to rely on donations at that rate.

If you'd still like to donate to Classic, here's the fundry. Remember we've handed over development to volunteers now, we're focusing on C2.

rom which country is scirra team? I mean If it really will be commercial, there are many problems for some EU users...

We're based in the UK, so any donations/sales will be converted to GBP. Davo is out in Australia, but all our operations are likely to run just from the UK. We'll surely be working on an international purchase system, though.

Re: "monetize the things around it": I just don't think we've got the resources to do this, plus it's much riskier IMO. Right now there are two of us, and we're 100% tied up with our respective tasks (C2 and website). We just can't really afford to do all that - months of work - then give it away for free and THEN start working on the part which makes money. Rent payments are looming. Perhaps we could consider it in future. Besides, we'd then be competing with other tools which have the same idea, and I don't see what we can offer which is anything special or above and beyond our competitors. Someone could download our tool for free, then use some other tool's content marketplace which is cheaper/better/has more stuff. Our strength and speciality is Construct 2. We'll have a free edition, and some license options. I think that's fair.
