Yes this is a really good info thanks.

Just to let you know. One forum gives very few visitors but if they like the videos maybe the recommend them to others.

    This is so true.

I try to think as simple as possible.
The fact is that people like game creation tutorials. I have asked around in a couple of forums and they are very interested to have them. Someone that likes to play games have most likely thought what if I could create a game. So I think there is a demand.
    What do you think?
  • [quote:k1kwjmkm]To be honest though i don't really think tutorials are a good way to make money. Usually they are made to help people rather than profit from them. You should probably just start making games instead and try to sell those, you could then have tutorials how to make various things from the games to help promote and boost the game sales.

I have made $0.06 now. I got an improved download rate when I uploaded the full tutorial to FileSonic and that was only with one tutorial.

If I create games and sell them I have lots of competition. For video tutorials I don't see much competition at all. I don't worry much about the competition between video and written tutorials. I searched around and it was crystal clear people wanted video tuts over written.

  • [quote:2h48ms61]Tutorials are cool and everything but there are already loads of those available for construct and many cap examples also which are free. Usually the examples are documented well with comments and so there is not even any need to watch a video tutorial to make a simple space game etc.

On the contrary ( or maybe it is only me) I think the embedded tutorials in the caps are messy and don't give a clear overview what is going on. I'm sure you have gotten used to Construct and know the tweaks but for beginner it can be hard to connect the dots. Even I have problem understanding the caps and that is good because it leaves more material for a video tutorial.

[quote:2h48ms61]Well if your really serious about this, I'd suggest taking it a step further, and making interactive tutorials via Construct 2.

Html5 is going to change the face of the net, might as well get on board.

I have been thinking of creating tutorials for Construct 2 for the free version. But I have not looked into it yet and I don't know how much support there is in the free version for HTML5.

  • [quote:30cmn07n]Finally, instead of a few large tutorials maybe write many high quality smaller tutorials. Another option is to post completed games that are well documented.

    Spot on there.

The ghost shooter video tutorial I made was really frustrating and took a long time to make. A lot of editing. Small and many are better for sure.

    Descripion:

The tutrial teach you the basics of using layouts and how you can use events to switch them. It also shows how objects are treated amongs the layouts and a little bit how the global checkbox works.

  • Thanks scidave. It is maybe better than nothing with $50-$100.

I have also been looking at this:

    http://marketplace.tutsplus.com

Seams to be the only site buying and selling tutorials. Very nice idea because I don't have to search for the customers. Still I like "free" a lot and I will try it out some more.

  • Ok as I understand you you're saying that because there is so much competition it will be hard for me to get noticed.

This would be very understandable if I where using search engine traffic.

But in my case I don't care about SE traffic much. I care more for people finding me through a couple of forums.

Also the forums have already found people interested in the niche.

  • I have noticed one thing. There aren't many free video tutorials compared to written articles. Maybe there is only a few like me that appreciate a video tutorial over a written tutorial/article.

What do you think? How many choose video over written text?

  • The first three rules for sales are location, location, location.

With that logic in mind the next three rules would be product, product, product.

Right now your selling igloos to Eskimos.

Yeah there might be a market, but sales are going to cold regardless.

You mean the game creator community is pretty limited or the number of people using construct are limited or something else?

  • This may not really have anything to do with your tutorials but you can try Google Adsense, basically, you can earn some dollars by posting their ads on your website or something and if people click those ads, you get some mowney!

Gamers/game creators are probably not the clicking on an ad type .

And it wouldn't look cool if I created a website with those ads.

Also you need a really big site with lots of content if you want to go for adsense.

Also video tutorials isn't search engine friendly.

I have to ad a lot of text. I hate writing

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I have been experimenting with tutorials on FileSonic. I have earner $0.04 so far in total with all tutorials I made. I need some suggestion how to increase this.

I have been thinking to make a short demo in youtube and post the full tutorial for download in FileSonic.

Please help me so I can make some more cents

    Cheers

    Natt

  • Nice job that makes me a little bit happier.

Lets hope we see new versions coming to it also.

Scirra construct tutorial how to create a simple space shooter. You can create this game withing 20 minutes even if you're not a skilled game developer. It has some lacking like no score or sound but as a tutorial demo it is ok I hope.

    • Construct 1 is still being actively developed, the community has taken it under it's wings and theres a lot of work going on behind the scenes. The new website will fully support it
    • Construct 2 will have a free edition, for non commercial use

For me it is pretty clear that the continuous work/upgrades/bug fixes/implementation will go to Construct 2. Otherwise they would have named Construct 2 to something else.

I really really hope the lead team have some better plans than this.
