Buying Construct2 on Steam vs buying on the Store?

Is there any advantage to using either method?

It might be best to buy it from the store. I heard it was generally easier since some people had issues with steam or there was some minor issue. Maybe if you search the forum you can get your answer.

Read these, I suggest the first one (my thread) as it had all the answers I needed- the rest were just searches on the forums.

I kind of wish I had gotten it off Steam.

Getting it there means it's less flexible; you can't run it portably off a flash drive and you have to be able to open Steam (which means an internet connection, unless you had the fore-sight to place it in Offline mode earlier when you still had internet access).

The benefit though is that it automatically updates itself, and you can very easily keep track of it and uninstall/reinstall or transfer it to a new computer.

Basically if you use Steam anyway and have no need to set up a portable installation, then Steam is better. Don't use Steam much if at all, or would like to take advantage of a portable installation? Get it off the site.

Just saying as that may have confused anyone who is split between steam and website.

No, I meant it that way. I personally have no use for a portable installation because I do my work on a Windows 8 tablet (laptop/ultrabook would also work), and I constantly use Steam regardless.

I'd lose nothing and I'd no longer have to manually install every update that comes out.

If my tablet were to break or something, I wouldn't have to worry about losing my license either (since the site version stores it on your computer as an actual file).

I asked myself what version to choose not so long ago and went with the website one for 3 reasons :

1/ I sometime use C2 at work for personal interfaces, and couldn't install steam there.

2/ I like to keep up with the beta version, and didn't see this option in Steam.

3/ Steam didn't let met use multiple instances of C2, wich was useful for writing plugins.

I didn't understand the minor difference in pricing though. Maybe it's because of currency exchange rate, but C2 was about 3? less on steam than on scirra.com.

Buying it on store means a free steam key , so it's like two birds for one !

That statement is untrue.

If you read THIS article from Ashley you will see that the free steam keys where for previous owners only, before steam purchases where available.
