Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • Hello there!

Me and a friend are planning to make a game. We already have a concept, but it won't be just a minigame. It will be a pretty big platformer, with all sorts of variables and levels.

My question is; can Construct 2 handle big games nice? I've heard some minigames are lagging, so I'm very curious how bigger games are.

    Thank you! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    Thijs

  • well no one made one so far so its hard to tell.

    But!

Keep in mind that C2 is still in early stage of development.

Get C2 and practice for now. Make some little games to get familiar with the engine and learn some cool tecniques. And wait for C2 to get more stable and gain more plugins/effects/stuff

  • C2 should handle large games just fine in future - your projects save to folders for collaboration, and you can organise everything in the project to subfolders and event sheets to keep track of things.

I'd warn you that it'd be best to wait until C2 is a bit more developed and its stability better proven before you go off making huge games. For example, large games definitely need a layout-by-layout loading system, and right now C2 loads the entire game before running. We're going to fix that though, so in a few months it should be a reliable, fast engine for big games :)

Does construct classic do that too? Load the entire game before running I mean. Or is it layout-by-layout?

  • in CC you can set that in application prosperities.

To load stuff "per layout" or everything. so its up to you.

Hell of a load at the beggining and zero loading after.

    or

short loading every now and then.

  • Classic lets you load layout-by-layout, but it's not so important - it generally starts up within seconds either way, rather than spending a long time downloading content, because it's all stored locally in the EXE. Classic's options are more for saving VRAM, where C2 needs layout-by-layout loading so it doesn't take 10 minutes to launch the game.

  • Hello people!

It's now november, so I was curious: is the stability of Construct 2 now good enough for big games?

I saw a lot of improvements by the way, keep up the good work! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I'd say it should hold up pretty well by now. I'd recommend keeping backups (always, even with stable software) and it should be fine. We're also planning some new features to make big projects easier to manage soon.

  • Maybe this gives new hope for my project...

  • Excellent! I want loading screens anyway, they are nice for casual tips ;)
