  • Can someone help me here? I provided an image of what i've done, using the Autorunner template but its not working for me. The event seems right but its not working for me. Am i going about this the right way in getting it to do what i need it to do?

  • eli0s Ashley Thank you for your responses. That's really helped me out with my issue so i appriciate you guys taking time out to help. Also, i only used a black background because i thought it would be clearer to see the fog (probably not the smartest idea lol) and i already had one on my desktop as i was working on something. My background is going to be in much more than just plain black

    Thanks again.

  • I'm trying to make a background where the fog scrolls endlessly but I'm having an issue with it. It seems to be fine up to a certain point and then for some reason it stutters, which doesn't look great. I don't exactly know what it's doing, it seems like after a certain point the image flips (maybe?) which causes the stutter, i'm not sure.

I've posted the capx file so you can see what i'm on about.

    Hope someone can help.

    Thanks

  • I've just tried what you've suggested but it hasn't worked for me unfortunately. Nothing appears after setting it up as you said. Is it possible for you to provide an example of this using the Autorunner Template please? Is there another way to do it if this way doesn't work?

  • Thanks for the response. I'll have a go at this and let you know how it goes, hopefully it'll work without any issues.

  • Hi,

I'm working on an autorunner game, loosely based on the Autorunner Example, and i wanted to add a few elements into the game which i hope someone can help with.

Firstly, i have a sprite that i would like to appear on the screen for just a second when the players score hits/goes past a certain number. For example, as soon as the player has reached 5000, a sprite will appear underneath the score just for a second and then disappear. This is just for an inside joke i wanted to add into the game. Is this at all possible? If so, could someone please explain, i'm using the score based off the Autorunner Example if thats helpful.

The other thing i wanted to add is an option to continue the game when the player dies, starting from the score that they died on, but only if the score that they died on is a specific number (hope that makes sense). So for example, if a player dies on a score of 123,456, the game over screen will appear with the usual Retry & Menu button, but in this case another button will appear saying Continue. This button will only appear when the score of 123,456 is met and will allow the player to start again but continue from 123,456 to improve on it. This is a sort of easter egg i wanted to add and would like to know if this is possible too.

    Thanks.

  • Never mind, i've solved the issue. I had a close look at the edges of my images in Construct, and after zooming in i noticed a small gap appearing on both sides of the image. After filling the gaps in with the color picker and brush tool, my issue was solved. Don't know why the gaps appeared but thanks to everyone that replied.

  • Try Construct 3

  • I don't understand how its a resizing issue, if its compressing/stretching the image, how does that make the gap appear? I downloaded a random image online and placed inserted it and the gap still appears. Is this some sort of bug? I don't get why this gap appears. Can anyone else offer any other suggestions? I cant be the only one that has experienced this issue....

  • I used Photoshop to create my images, these pictures definately match together to create a seamless image. These images that i'm having problems with are already inserted as Tiled Backgrounds. I did resize the images in Construct to make it slightly bigger to fit my layout size as they were a little smaller. But even if i resized the image in Photoshop to the exact size as my layout size and then insert it into Construct, it's still the same issue.

I have just noticed that the gap appears on the black line that shows the layout size, this is with all the images i'm having trouble with.

I've uploaded a couple of pictures to give a clearer view of what i mean.

The 1st picture i uploaded shows how it normally looks when i insert an image. In the 2nd picture, i've moved the image so you can see a gap that appears where the black line is in the 1st picture.

I've tried different things to solve this like increase the layout size, increase the image size but to no avail.

  • Thanks for the reply but unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem, there's still a gap and also, because i've changed it to point sampling, the quality of my image decreases. Any other suggestions?

  • Hi,

I'm having a small issue with applying a scrolling background to my game. I'm using the same method as the Autorunner template to create a scrolling background but the issue is that any image i insert (as a tiled background) seems to have a small gap when it scrolls back to the the beginning of the image.

The actual scrolling background seem to work fine, but its just this gap thats causing an issue.

It's not an issue with the image itself as i created the image myself and both sides match perfectly to create the effect of scolling continuously. I've tried increasing the size of the image but with no luck.

I'm not sure what the problem is so i hope someone can help.

I've included an image to show what i'm referring to.

    Thanks

  • I've tried using the capx file to implement a game over score but the score seems to remains 0 all the time, i can change the text but the score always remains 0. The other issue is that game over screen is on another layer, which is not what i'm look for. What i wanted was as soon as the player falls off the screen, the screen stops moving and a game over appears, along with a message stating the score and a retry button.

LittleStain - I've tried your method of creating the Game Over and Retry logos on another layer and set to invisible. Then, in the event sheet, i made it so that as soon as the player falls, this layer is set to visible. The problem there is that because i set the Retry button to restart the game layer, as soon as i touch the area where the Retry button is during the game, the game restarts as its invisible.

Could you go in to more detail on how its done please? I'm also interested in creating a highscore as you suggested but don't know how to go about it so if you can provide details on that then that would be appriciate.

I'm still just a beginner on this so i apologise if i seem like a complete noob
