  • I just logged in to post this response.

  • I didn't need instructions, I thought the game was explicit enough. Nice presentation and simple gameplay, I found it a little bit stale and not that fun, but I'm pretty sure there are ways to make it more engaging.

If it's a kids game and it's supposed to be very basic then you've done a great job. However, if you wanted the gameplay to have some depth, there is some work that could be done in order to achieve that.

  • You have to set up the imagepoint correctly for the different frames and animations of your sprite object. Look up the tutorials and manuals if you don't understand what these terms mean, they're essential for you to know if you want to keep making games.

  • Random(N) - Returns a random number between 0 and N, not including N. The result includes fractions, so random(3) can return 2.5. Use floor(random(n)) to generate a random whole number up to but not including N, e.g. floor(random(3))* will return either 0, 1 or 2. Random(A, B) can also be used to generate a random number between A and B.

And you compare the result and re-roll accordingly.

  • Hey Kat, just so you know and for future reference, you're linking us to localhost, meaning your own computer (but only to yourself), so we cannot access it. In order for us to be able to help you, you either post your capx file or you upload the HTML5 export to some webhosting (or your google drive) and then we'll be able to help you out

  • Alright, let's see where this goes. Good luck.

Bump. Anyone? The "Application supports iTunes file sharing" was set to NO all along...

  • Hello everybody,

I'm here to present my next little project : Gorky. For those who don't know, Maxim Gorky was one of the first people to assist to one of the Lumiere's brothers projections. He witnessed the birth of cinema.

Maxim Gorky (1868–1936) saw a program of Lumière films at a Russian fair and published this article in a local paper a few days later, on July 4, 1896.

The game is basically a short and simple metroidvania, in which instead of finding powerups and gaining abilities, you lose them. As you advance, the game becomes more difficult and the levels must be approached in new ways, as you won't be able to use your old abilities anymore.

This is what Maxim Gorky had to say about his first experience :

Last night I was in the Kingdom of Shadows.

If you only knew how strange it is to be there. It is a world without sound, without colour. Every thing there—the earth, the trees, the people, the water and the air—is dipped in monotonous grey. Grey rays of the sun across the grey sky, grey eyes in grey faces, and the leaves of the trees are ashen grey. It is not life but its shadow, It is not motion but its soundless spectre.

His text will be used as inspiration for the game's atmosphere and cinema as a whole will be a background theme. I will not approach the theme directly, but I'll make some nods here and there and construct a mysterious story around it.

All graphics will be made in pixel-art and I will try to keep a modern-retro look. I will use mostly cold colours all around the game with some very saturated uses of warm colours here and there, to contrast some of it (or highlight things). I'm really unsure about the character's look (looks to plain) so that might change. For now, he's a good placeholder.

I hope you'll follow the development of this little game and that you'll enjoy playing it when it comes out!

    Altar

This may be where you give up your powers as you go.

    Project's on hiatus for now

  • Some feedback that you may want to consider, even though it's a WIP.

When you change sides, the animation is way too slow, it doesn't make sense to have it at that speed. It slows down gameplay and makes it very frustrating for the player. The animation should "obey" the players actions, not the opposite. At least not in this type of game.

Having a background image that size doesn't make sense either. It will hinder your performance in the long run.

I know the graphics are placeholder, but when you get down to actually making your own, make sure the style is consistent. For now, it is not and it makes the game just seem like a weird collage of found images.

The level design is pretty cool but it gets repetitive. The enemies that rush towards you are really cool and could be used to make some challenging segments.

  • Very impressive work. It works perfectly on my computer, but it is powerful so...

  • If you remove them from the project itself you will be able to share it and people will be able to open it. Just delete the object and you'll be fine if I'm not mistaken.
