  • The link on your website for the official C2 manual isn't working:

    scirra.com/manual/150/manual.zip

It says "Download the Official Construct 2 Manual (2.2mb)" but it just links back to the website. I'm going to be going on a 7 month western Pacific deployment soon and won't have internet during most of that timeframe, so I won't have a way to reference the online manual. Is this offline manual hosted anywhere else?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

The features there is way better and Construct 3 is an incomplete product especially with the current SDK limitation, trust me!

But if you are a startup and have low in funds... Then I guess Construct 3 is fine.

But don't buy Construct 2 anymore, for it is outdated and currently overpriced after the price raise to encourage new users to subscribe to Construct 3 instead.

Does Construct 2 have the issue where you have to connect to the internet every 7 days to verify? I can't use Construct 3 since I'm without internet 6-8 months out of the year on average.

  • New users should get Construct 3. It's actively developed and getting new features and improvements all the time. There's a list of all the new features Construct 3 has over Construct 2 here. At this point, Construct 2 is only being maintained with bug fixes.

Which would you recommend to new users who are without internet 6-8 months out of the year (Navy servicemember who deploys often)? Will the offline mode time restriction be a limiting factor in this scenario?

  • zenox98 is right, moved to Construct 2 general.

It's an oversight from when I made event variables - you can use an integer (0 or 1) for now which is an easy workaround though. Adding this is on the todo list.

Is this still on the todo list for C2?

  • I’ve been using the trial version of Construct 3 for a couple weeks, and I have yet to get the notification that it’s available for offline use. I did the step that puts a shortcut on my home screen back when I started using it. When I’m not online, I get a page cannot be displayed error when trying to open Construct 3.

  • I spent 14 hours today working on a project in C2, and the program crashed. Before the latest update, I've never had a crash. When I opened the program back up, there was no trace of my work. I didn't save the project during this time since I've never had C2 crash before. Does it automatically save a backup of progress anywhere?

  • I agree, especially since they didn’t say in the announcement that there was an expiration to that option. They simply said as long as you buy it after that date then you get the discount. Since they pulled the discount without notice and without removing the announcement for the discount, I would have felt duped into buying it had I finished my purchase since I was purchasing it based on that advertisement.

  • I saw this announcement on this site: "Customers who purchase Construct 2 on or after 1st February 2017 (the launch announcement date) will be eligible 100% discount on the first year subscription price for a license of the same type or lower (where Business is the highest and Personal is the lowest)."

Is this still relevant as of today? In other words, if I purchase Construct 2 today(since it's after 1Feb17), will I be eligible for 100% discount on the first year of Construct 3?

P.S.: The reason I want 2, even if I go to 3 eventually, is that I have a lot of progress on projects on the free version of 2 which require plugins that haven't been ported to 3. Additionally, I have had issues with the free version of 3 in every browser I tried, specifically browser crashing at random times. I feel more comfortable having a standalone editor that isn't reliant on my web browsers. Finally, there are many times where I'm deployed for 7-9 months at a time (military) and not able to work on my projects for extended periods of time, so I am not too happy paying for a year for which most of it I'm unable to use the product. I like being able to take whatever amount of time I need to work on my projects, even if it means a little bit every other year or so.

    Thanks!
