  • Here's what the developer of The Next Penelope, featured on the C2 site's homepage said about his experience working with Construct 2 and HTML5. http://www.perfectly-nintendo.com/the-n ... -to-wii-u/

"However, releasing your game on just one platform is a luxury most small developers like me cannot allow themselves. Let’s be clear as water: I missed contracts that would have drastically changed my financial life because of that. No, not because of Construct 2, but indeed because of the HTML5 upon which it is based, and which it depends on. From improbable tweaks to drastic optimization, without counting the help I asked from the gifted programmers I know. I thought I’d find solutions along the way, but despite my efforts, nothing worked well enough to be proud of the result."

Mark Zuckerberg called Facebook's HTML5 app "one of the biggest mistakes if not the biggest strategic mistake that we made."

Facebook took 8 months building their app in HTML5, then 4 more months to realize it was impossible to get the quality they wanted from it and decided to change directions, then a long time building the entire thing again from the ground up in native code for Android and iOS. They bet on HTML5 heavily too, and he called it; "one of the biggest if not the biggest strategic mistake that we made." And I think the software engineers at Facebook probably know what they're doing when it comes to coding....

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I once tried to export a game onto PC for all my family members and friends as a gift over the Holidays. It ran like garbage on the PC whereas the browser version ran perfectly. C2 has some major exporting problems I would steer clear of in the future, especially if C3 does nothing to address this. I'm watching closely now..

  • Tekniko

Sad, but many have experienced the exact same situation as you

  • Lots of problems exporting to PC with C2. Unless C3 updates this I would steer clear, hopefully c3 will majorly improve this...

  • Intel XDK + Construct 2 Official "IAP" plugin is a Complete Failure/Disaster... Is this a joke put on us by Scirra????

Got this error: The requested plugin was not found:

    com.mcm.plugins.androidinappbilling

You can remove the plugin(s) from your project and continue the plugin resolution process, or cancel plugin resolution and exit this project.

Then this error before the app even loaded:

The requested plugin is missing variable values:

    cc.fovea.cordova.purchase

You can remove the plugin(s) from your project and continue the plugin resolution process, or cancel plugin resolution and exit this project. If you choose to remove the plugin from your project, you may add it using the appropriate variable value(s) after the upgrade.

Is the official IAP Plugin from Scirra a joke??? How could anything "Official" from Scirra be this bad????????

Is there an actual way to make it work, because Scirra sure doesn't keep up with their "official" plugins, that's for darn sure...............

A good try for sure. But the only problem is I don't think the 'is on screen' event can pick before the 'on collision' event. Otherwise yes, it would be a good trick for sure.

Thanks for your reply. If it is true that in some cases collision cells make the project worse, why not make a simple on/off toggle switch in the project bar so users can turn it off if it hinders performance? It will be on by default. That way there are no gripes and you don't have to perform a fancy (but less intuitive) shrink the window and reduce the scale trick to get it to work. It will remain on by default but can be turned off to increase performance in some cases. There is no harm in it surely, you already did it for turrets, just do it for the rest of the engine, please. I'm still not done testing the versions, it seems that collision cells will reduce performance except in cases with very small window sizes. A toggle switch would instantly fix this issue. Modern phones have displays reaching above the 1920 x 1080 viewport of most monitors, my current project is set at 1440x2560 to accommodate most modern smartphone screens. Wouldn't it be feasible to have a simple on/off switch to alleviate this? Thanks for your help

  • Johncw87

Thanks for your tip John. I don't want to make you work but could you do a quick little example of 139 vs 239 and show improved performance? That would be a huge help and shed light on this for all of us! ))

    Thank you man.

  • I have real games that actually grind to a halt just like this, whereas with 139 they do not. C2 has drastically worse performance than it did before, and I believe it has something to do with the collision cells update. Ashley this is a big one, I think it happened right after the collision cells update. I can provide many more tests just like this to help illustrate the problem in order to benefit you and the c2/c3 community. Thank you for fixing this. Let me know how I can help: I'm committed to getting this one resolved. It's too big and too drastic/beneficial to go unnoticed or unfixed. Thank you, I'll provide more examples in days to come.. I have virtually unlimited examples of this problem so hopefully all of these help in resolving it. Good Luck!

  • Please test it and let me know, THANKS!!!!!!

  • Burvey

Thank you, maybe something good can come out of this for all of us then.

  • colonel Justice

It doesn't really matter what the test is, if it shows clearly how the previous version is vastly superior, isn't it better? All I know is, my old project ran perfectly before and now no matter what I do it will not run anymore except at a slow crawl, whereas before it ran perfectly. That is the clear problem here. Whatever happened to Construct 2 made it much worse than before.

  • Burvey

I simply set up 2 identical projects and showed their performance comparatively. If the 242 version runs at 28 fps after your event changes, think of what the performance will be on the 139 version with the same changes!!! Why are you fighting for worse performance? It seems like better is better, right???????

  • Ashley is probably busy with the release of Construct 3 so I wanted to see if anyone could lend me their brain power here:

I put it in the bug report section, but it's more of a performance test between an older version of Construct 2 and the latest.

Please let me know what you think and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I found a way to double the performance of Construct 2 with an older version:.
