  • Dreamcader I have elementary students. There are several things that can trigger actions besides candy such as the lighting in the room, certain materials, lack of things to help stabilize their fidgeting, and even body sprays. The list goes on. Bottom line, they need structure. That is the best strategy. It helps with classroom management and push their potential a bit more.

  • Dreamcader thanks for the interest and taking the time to read it. Hope you enjoyed some of the images or few animations posted. I teach and see the effects of candy first hand. Though, this isn't a true crusade against Sugar, just a weird spin on the drug scene.

I hope to make it a gradual level of difficulty. I plan to add a few obstacles, but will try to not make them "Cheap" deaths similar to the original Double Dragon's level 4's popping out walls.

2 player is one of my ultimate goals, but I'm trying to focus on what I can handle now. If I can't pull it off initially, then maybe as an add on, but it's a definite want.

I just added a preview of another baddie and also did a cover mock up, which is my take on an old Kung fu movie poster. I posted them yesterday, along with a few other things.

  • I added several more images and mock ups. Love to get some feedback. I haven't posted the updated layout look of the Park level yet. Waiting on that.

  • Story:

Mr. Candy Cane has been pushing high end sweets on the streets. This is causing all the kids to become extremely hyperactive, to the point the public is demanding Mayor Palinski to do something. With the Police Dept. using majority of their resources responding to calls trying to assist schools and homes containing the kids, it leaves Mayor Palinski no choice, but to call on drop out police cadet, Gil. Will his fists be sweet enough to sour Mr.Cand Cane?

Tiny update to the blog at http://pixelpopulation.weebly.com/sugar ... n-the-blog

Working on 2 games, Sugar High Shakedown and Revenja. More focus is going in to Sugar High as Revenja is a much bigger project. These are images and mock ups of Sugar High Shakedown. A lovely night time stroll in the park.

  • Great art style. Little different than what's out there.

  • Thanks. I will look forward to the Capx. I need all the help I can get.

  • I think I need to restart and create a solid sidewalk and paste those tiles on the bottom half of the screen.

My problem is, I'm trying to follow some of the tutorials, but I'm not having much luck with the events.

I basically want to recreate the 1st level of Nes's Double Dragon, just to understand Construct better and then build my own game.

I pasted the 1st level 512x512, (and tried 640x480)not sure what the background white layer Window size should be.

I imported Billy sprites and created the separate animation folders for Idle, Walk, Jump, Punch, Kick, Hit (gets hit), and Fall Down. I cropped each frame within their respective folders and also gave the 2 origin point. I gave Billy the Pin To Behavior as I created an invisible blue box sprite to be placed over him. I also gave Scroll to behavior to Blue box.

Do I give Billy or Blue a Box the 8 directional or platform or both behaviors?

Also, do I need to create a street/sidewalk sprite that he will be pinned to and I can paste it over my background covering the Games street?

I think I need to give a Keyboard behavior clicking on the layout.

I started with System, Every Tick, Billy, Set Position to Blue Box, 0 image point for first event.

Thanks for your help, if you can answer these ones, maybe I can figure a few more steps on my own.

  • The video was good. It recommends creating an invisible box to put around player for better collision. That I never would have thought of. I will have to pause it constantly to jot notes as the screen is small, and I can't quite make out some of the behaviors/actions he types which looks like they are in " ". Hard to see. Thanks again.

  • On the Scirra Store, there is a beat em up side scroller and a beat em up platformer. You just swap your sprites with the ones already there. They are both around $16-$18 each. You can preview the demo before. If you know a little more on how to work Construct, you can add things or modify either one. I bought the platformer as a way to test things as I'm new to programming. I'm working on two games, one being a Nes Double Dragon type game. You can read my updates and see images about it here: http://pixelpopulation.weebly.com/sugar ... n-the-blog

There are some new images I added last night. Its the art that I can get by on, but the programming skills I lack. I'm trying though to work through tutorials when I have time.

Back to the templates you can buy, for the heck of it, I took Nes's Double Dragon sprites and started inserting them into the platformer template I bought and got Billy Lee to jump. Kind of neat.

  • Thank you. It's more to off of.

  • Thanks. I will give it a shot. I can forsee one problem; the whole layout of buildings and street are one sheet. That's how I downloaded and inserted it. Is there a way to limit how high he can walk, set a screen position he can't reach?
