Whenever I think I have this 3D thing worked out - a hit another wall.

In the Infinite Kart Racer Template demo,

I made it portrait, changed the size to: 1080 x 1920, fixed the camera so it will work with that size, but how does one get the platforms continuous, so the player doesn't need to jump from platform to platform, but still dies if they fall off the side?

I changed Set X to (GroundSpawnPoint.X + Self.Width / 2) - MINDISTANCE -1 which worked before, but it doesn't work correctly now. And when it does work, I can't put the ground speed over 8 or it stops working again.

    Thoughts?

  • Jase00,

Thank you for your reply. I have plenty of space on my GDrive. 10 gigs. The program is much smaller.

Everything is backed up every few minutes. Google Drive creates a backup every time the file is saved. So you get the saved file and a backup file with every single save.

In the picture, in my original post, there is an image of the backups. There are 97 backups. Typically, I open one of the backups, but there are 97 corrupt backups.

There are 97 backups - they are all corrupt.

  • Ashley,

I do have backups. It's saved to Google Drive. Google saves a backup copy every time a project is saved. Google provided me with 97 separate backup copies from about 9am to 3pm - all are corrupt.

Regardless, without closing and reopening the file every time it's saved, is there any way to know if C3 will consider the project corrupt?

I save my work obsessively. Closing and reopening a file every few minutes to ensure it's not corrupt isn't ideal.

Thank you for the reply. Someone told me to press F12 before I opened the file, that worked. I should have thought of that, sorry.

That shows a bunch of problems, but we knew that lol

The thing is, C3 isn't telling me there is a problem until I go to reopen the file.

I don't understand why C3 doesn't pop-up message something like 'Hey, I saved this, but there is a huge problem with X that you need to fix now or the file will never open again' instead of allowing us to save the project over and over again.

Is there a message that pops up and I may have it turned off?

Or is there a way to know there is a problem before I close it?

    Thanks again.

This is what I get when I hit F12. Can you tell me what it's supposed to look like, please?

Hit F12 when? The game won't open.

I only use the stable version, but the file still won't open because it's now corrupt.

I want to know how to get C3 to tell me the file is corrupt before I spend a day building a game that will never open again.

  • This morning I opened my latest project (34TheOther.c3p) and I got that 'Are you sure it's a C3 file' error message. Which I'm told means your C3 file is corrupt. Because YES, it's a C3 file.

I went to Google Drive, found the file and because I hit save obsessively, I have 97 versions of that file. I downloaded version 96. Same error message.

So I downloaded and attempted to open 34TheOther.c3p version 79 from 1:51pm. Same error message.

I then downloaded and attempted to open 34TheOther.c3p version 32 from 11:58am. Same error message.

Then I downloaded and attempted to open 34TheOther.c3p version 1, from 9:51am. Same error message.

If the file was corrupt at 9:51am, why did C3 allow me to work on that project and repeatedly save that project - the Entire Day - without telling me there was a problem?

How do I know that file isn't going to open the next time I use it without closing and reopening the file as obsessively as I save it?

    That's an entire day wasted.

    What other networks?

I've been looking for other networks with not much luck.

What do you know of other ads networks that work like Google ads in games? (Not necessarily with C3, just in general)

If you have an affiliate link, I'd be happy to use it.

    Thanks.

  • I know that when allowing the game to choose a random number, under certain circumstances, you need to add one more number, but I don't know when to do that and I think it's messing with my game.

Example: Set variable: gameLayout to floor(random(1,10))

If I have 10 layouts and the variable chosen dictates the layout played, do I need to make the number in the parenthesis 1,10 or 1,11?

When do I need to make it 1 more and when do I need to make it the correct amount?

    Thank you.

  • The 2D object you're using, it's separate from the 3D object, yes? Like an animation?

    Test it this way:

    1. Make sure the 2D object is on the layout (I know, I know, just do it)

    2. Make sure you have the correct 'face visibility' box checked and you have something in 'use object image for faces' and it's the right something.

But again, if you're doing all this in an 'Object Repository' layout, make sure you also have the 2D image on the layout that you are using the 2D object in (aka the game layout) or it doesn't show up.

  • LetTheMiceFree,

    I feel the same way.

I can get a 3D game to look pretty good as long as nothing moves.

If the player sprite is in front of another sprite it looks fine, but once the player jumps over it and is behind it, half the player is gone.

Or if objects are set to invisible, when it is visible again, it doesn't matter what layer it's on, the overlap becomes an issue. I've read the C3 3D documentation again and again - an adjustment that fixes one thing creates an issue with another.

It's my only issue with the 3D aspect of C3. I love every other thing about how C3 does 3D. Everything else makes sense and is so easy. The only issue is the transparency/overlapping.

  • BaconSwagg,

That is a very interesting idea. I'm not entirely sure how to do that, but I'm going to try that next.

    Thank you.

Do you mean make a frame with the player and the mallet together?

The problem there is, if the player runs into the object the player loses points.

If the mallet hits the object that player gains points. If the player jumps over the object it's a draw.

I need to keep the player and the mallet separate because of collisions.

I was thinking of setting the 3D objects beside each other and keep it constant using every tick, but it's a mobile game and every tick can slow things down so I haven't tried that yet. I was hoping for an alternative for an every tick.

  • C3/Mobile Game

I need to pin a 3D mallet to a 3D player, so the player can swing the mallet and knock off the objects (at speed). The mallet and the player need to be separate but attached because if the 3D player hits the object and not the 3D mallet then the player loses speed points.

The player will have several different options, not only a mallet, there is also a chainsaw, pointy stick, punching glove on a spring and a gun. I need to let the player change the 3D shapes on demand during the game.

When I tried it, I wasn't successful. When I asked in the FB group, I'm told it isn't an option to pin a 3D shape to another 3D shape at a specific image point. Will that be an option in the future?

Is there a creative work around that someone can share?

The 3D shapes don't necessarily need to be attached - the mallet doesn't need to be in the player's hand, - but if the 3D mallet is beside the 3D player moving at the same angle/speed as the player and the mallet was at the same height as the player's hand that would work (especially since C3 has that overlap issue).

    Thank you.

  • Ashley,

That explains why it's not working lol

Guess I'll have to move back to the variables.

    Thank you for clarifying.
