  • UPDATE: Oh my gosh it worked! I am so happy, thank you so much!

  • Thank you so much for the help, I'll try looking into these functions. :)

  • Is there a way to solidly attach a sprite to another sprite, so that they seamlessly move together?

I know there's functions and behaviors such as "Move To", "On every tick go to position of another object", but these will always be slightly delayed. I've read about "Families" and "Containers" but I don't know that these are the solution.

Specifically, I have a character that I want to make up of multiple sprite, so that more complex movement animation can be conveyed. So, for example, the legs of a character could keep moving, while the upper body could perforce swinging or shooting arm movements. Doing this with a single sprite I don't think is possible, or at least would take up a massive amount of storage. This is why I'm hoping there is a way to attach sprites together, in a way in which the attachment is seamless and without delay.

    Thank you for any help!

  • In the last line on your screenshot you are saving "Coins" string, instead of Coins variable. That's why it's NaN, because the string can't be converted to a number.

You need to remove the quotation marks.

Oh my gosh, it worked! Thank you so much! I can finally finish my game! I'm so happy. I'm going to put you in the credits if that's okay! Such a tiny mistake. :)

  • You are doing something wrong. You need to post your project file or a screenshot of your events.

Or check how to use Local Storage in the official template.

Thanks very much. Here's an image of the inputs. I added a link in case the screenshot doesn't upload properly.

  • I'm trying to set a global variable to save via "LocalStronge", so it keeps the value even after you exit and re-open the game. I thought I finally got it working, but when the layout loads, the value appears as as "NaN". I've seen that this means "Not a Number". I'm not sure how to fix this and it's really worrying. It's the last hurdle to finishing my game.

For clarification, the global variable in question I'm trying to save is number, like as in displaying the number of coins you have etc.

If anyone know how to fix this I'd be really grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

  • That is a good idea. I would however be somewhat fearful about setting up a full campaign, since I feel like there would be a lot of pressure if several people put large sums of money in. This is my first game, and I don't think I have the experience to do something on that scale. I've seen paid campaigns sometimes be really successful, but sometimes fail terribly after getting funding. Realistically, I feel that with my personal skill set it would be irresponsible to ask for money before the game was done. I'd need more experience first. Thanks for the answer!

I do have other income, which means I don't really need funding to make a full version. That doesn't mean I wouldn't want to make a profit though, since time and work has went into making it.

  • So I've recently finished a project, and I want to upload it for people to play.

I was also hoping to, if possible, make profit from it. The thing is, the game itself is more of a concept. Basically it's a demo that's a taste of what the game is, to see if people are interested in the idea. If so, then I would want to make a full version.

I think it's a pretty substantial demo, and would probably take around an hour to complete. I've worked on it for almost a year, so a lot of hours have went into it. The idea that I might not see any profit from that year of work it a little disheartening. This would happen if I released it for free, but asking for money for a concept demo feels a little tacky and I'm worried people would completely bypass it if I charged to play.

Now, websites like itch io have options for donations, meaning that if the demo was free, then people could donate if they choose too. This seemed like it may be a better idea, but that is relying purely on people choosing to donate, which of course isn't guaranteed.

So basically there are two options:

    1) Release the project as a paid demo, which may alienate players as they may not want to pay for something that is in fact a demo, even if a fair amount of work has went into it.

    2) Release the project for free, which would make the game more accessible, and rely on potential donations.

I'm not sure what the best option is, so I wondering if anyone had any advise/experience on what would be the best approach, or if any other methods would be better.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you for the answers.

I've managed to pretty much fix the problem. I was putting the Global Variable in the wrong Event Sheet. I put it on the games title layout, so being global, stays present on all other layouts. The text counter is working now, and is recording the score. Although the counter disappears on some layouts, but I think that's a separate problem, so probably will be easier to fix.

I'll update if something else goes wrong.

    Thanks again for the help!

  • Hi, I'm a bit new to Construct 3, so this might be really basic.

I've been trying to make a value(s) that stay constant across all layouts.

    To give context:

Imagine you add a value to keep score, and add a text box to display the score. Well, I'm trying to make the score remain constant across all layouts, so that the score can be added to and subtracted from in all layouts. So if the value is set at 10 when exiting a layout, it will remain 10 on the start of the next layout.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've tried different things and I can't get it to work. Thank you.
