  • Hi all,

Bit of a strange one, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience of using a lot of arrays in a C2 project? By a lot I'm talking around 1,000 - 1,500.

I'm working on an RPG style game and this number of arrays is due to the number of items in the game that will need an inventory and/or outcome text (to clarify this is for desktop, not mobile).

I have everything working with a few objects and 100 arrays, so just wondering if I'm going to push things too far having thousands? I'm thinking that as it's only text data then it shouldn't really be an issue on performance, but my main concern is around saving, as all of this array data will need to be saved to a local storage fairly often (via json strings in a dictionary that is then saved to local storage).

Any wisdom or experience would be appreciated, thanks

  • Finished and submitted, now going to bed!

You can try the game and leave a comment here: From the Sea, Freedom

  • I'm going for the Jam submission tomorrow, but it's going pretty well so far. Time for some sleep!

  • Hey everyone, I'm in again. This will be my 11th Ludum Dare in a row! As a few others have said, I learn more during Ludum Dares than do throughout the rest of the year put together. I've got 10 games done and out there which I never would have managed otherwise. I definitely recommend getting involved

  • I must say I'm very frustrated by LocalStorage, I have tried switching my project over to it from WebStorage and really having trouble. I retrieved a lot of data from WebStorage from within functions, and this just doesn't seem to be supported now, as every retrieve needs a separate trigger which I can't put inside my functions. The GetKeyAt expression only allows you to grab a key by number rather than name, which is no use to me.

Is there really no way to just retrieve a key by name from within a function and then use that value? As an example, I just want to run a function, retrieve the height and width of an array from 2 LocalStorage keys and then run loops using those 2 values. This was very easy with WebStorage, but now it seems like I'll have to do something extremely complicated just to accomplish the same thing. Unless I'm missing something?

  • So very tired, but here's our entry 'Brood'

  • Late to the party, but I'm in again. Good luck everyone!

  • Hi all, I have a sprite that looks like an open book, and wondered if there's anything that exists to simulate the turning of a page? I know this could be animated, but the issue is that the things on the page are dynamic and will be different every time, so I was looking for an effect to make it look as if a page was being turned over.

This sounds pretty difficult to me, so it's probably a long shot. Still, if someone has already done this (or could do this), then you would have my everlasting and undying love

  • Hey everyone, we just about got finished in time. Another submission with 3 minutes to go! Anyway here is our game Miyu, I hope you like it.

Play Miyu on Ludum Dare Website

When I've had some sleep I'll get on here and play all the games posted here.
