    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Add an Object to a Project Subfolder

    2. Add Event

    3. You will NOT SEE the Object(s), but you can still access them if you know their names.

    For Example:

        A. If Keyboard is in a Project Subfolder

        B. Add Event

        C. Begin Typing K... It will appear on the first letter and you can select it.

    Observed result:

Objects that are placed in Project Subfolders do not appear in the Add Events Panel. Seems to affect all object types, but I did not do extensive testing on that.

    Expected result:

Object should appear in the Add Events Panel

    Browsers affected:

    N/A - Editor based

    Operating system & service pack:

    Win Vista SP2

    Construct 2 version:

    123.2 Paid

  • INTERESTING FIND!

So I did what you suggested and all good, but I also stumbled onto something very interesting, you don't actually need the Diagonals. Yes, check this out.

I have 4 Sprites for N,E,S,W setup in that configuration. I have the events setup so that "Is in Touch" so as you drag your finger across N Hero moves North, as you drag your finger across E Hero moves East and so forth, BUT Here is the magic IF your finger drags/is overlapping two sprites for example N and E the Hero moves NE, Yes diagonally North-East.

That is excellent, I am sure Ashley is going to be like duh I coded that in there :)

Nice find, saves me 4 other sprites or frames.

    Thanks

    Brett

  • Ok Ashley, I see how you can tweak the interface and add value. So when you are on a Layout, the UI knows what objects are being used on that Layout and therefore will show appropriate Layers in the DD List under Properties, so if I click on an Object in the objects panel that is not in use Layers is not available, why not do the same for the objects?

What I mean is if a Object is not in use on a Layout, I would say hide it, but then you couldn't add it to the Layout, so grey it out or fade it slightly, some kind of indicator, you already have the code to determine this. Anyhow maybe you already have it on the list.

    Thanks

  • So I was just about to open a bug then I stumbled onto my issue. I just purchased C2 and was cleaning up my free project, adding layers, properly assigning objects to layers etc.. As I clicked through each object I noticed that some of the objects did list in the Layers DD, any of the layers I created.

After digging I found that layers are per Layout, is there a way to make layers Global? basically I am probably going slightly overboard and creating too many layers, but I am very organized in my coding, anyhow. I have like 10 Named Layers, but when I go to a different layout none of those are there and my naming convention is pretty generic, but really don't want to re-type it all again on each and every Layout.

I see value in the a set of layers per Layout, but then it sort of flies in the face of all of the objects just being in a folder, I understand I can create subs just odd. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

  • Well Hello! I been using the C2 free version for about a month and wow it is excellent. I wanted to wait to purchase until I could prove to myself that with this tool I can create a game from Zero to App Store and I have WOOT. Thank you. This is an excellent tool very excited and looking forward to building more.

My name is Brett, have been a web programmer for 20 years, really have been itching to get into games the last few years but each time I try its so time consuming and involved. You of course get to build the game but you also have to build the engine and boy it is exhausting and really makes you want to give up!

Enter Construct 2, blazingly fast to prototype and put a game together man I wish I found it sooner.

    Thank you!

  • Wow, I feel stupid, totally should have tried that first. Thank you. Thanks newt that is something to think on for the future, right now I just need basic, but that is good to know.

  • So I have a Hero with 8 Way Movement Behavior, but I am not using the Keyboard. I created Sprites for each direction, but it doesn't appear that in the Conditions and Actions you can select Diagonals, only Up,Right,Down,Left. Any idea how to code it so you can move diagonal?

    Thanks

    Brett

  • Right, but not exactly what I was looking for. Example: Let say you have a Person with all individual parts, Body, Arms, Legs, Head. It would be great to position them and then just click and drag a Arm if you want to move him. But hey there is always work arounds, guess I could create a layer and only put him on it then just Select All.

    Thanks

    Brett

  • Does C2 have what you could call Collections? What I am looking for is a way to "Group" objects in the Editor, then just click on one and move the "Collection"! I understand I can just Ctrl+Click and select X objects, but it would sure be nice if you could just click one and drag all of them around.

    Thanks

  • mineet, it took a few for mine to show. Either wait a few or hit refresh, it will popup eventually.

  • Tekniko, the videos linked to by Auntie Val are done by ConstructDude he has a ton of videos which are all excellent. He does go fast, but you can pause and take your time, in the end copy paste his code then spend some time looking it over in your build, get a grip of what it does and why, that is the best way to learn.

    Brett

  • newt, I disagree, I don't think C2 needs to move to an online editor, it would be a nice bonus but not as the primary tool. Look at all the tools out there for web developers and programmers, most are standalone run from your computer. Honestly I think its better, then you are not relying on an internet connection, don't have to worry if your connection drops will you lose work etc.. You can work offline, more stable blah blah. The advantages of working in an online world is you can work from anywhere, but on the converse just save your work to the web and pull it to where you need it and honestly as much as we think we will work while we are out or on travel we don't :)

Oh and I tried to look into this tool it seems very much in the early stages. give it a year and lets see what it can do, but right now "looks" nice, but its sitting on wordpress and their communications are poor, not interested!
