  • I'm not sure how that works. IIRC I bought the paid version (if there is even a distinction anymore) but i've never seen ads in it. how are they unique?

Skyline Skater for iOS is a great example of really using all social media hooks to generate posts, tweets and ad views.

  • I'm reaching out to Millennial Media to hopefully find some kind of solution. They support ads and have an office here in Boston. I'm friends with a game dev who works over there and he's going to get me in touch with someone at their Baltimore office.

The dream would be to make a case for creating an official plugin, but I had no luck with MixPanel stepping up to do that, but I'll try these folks as well.

Has anyone had experience with this before? Video ads are red hot right now for monetizing in games and it would seem like we should be actively trying to find a solution for this somehow.

I've also sent an email to scirra support to see if they have any suggestions / insight on a solution for this also

  • hey man that's nice! thanks for sharing. It definitely seems to be nice and responsive to up and downs even in mid move. the past stuff people were trying just didn't cut it. I had abandoned the swipe thing when the project I was working on fell through, so I'm glad to see you kept at it!

  • Hi everyone,

I've inquired in the past about video ads and I've been informed that admob offers interstitial ads, but the question was kinda slated for interstitial and video, but I'm not sure if admob has video ads. I'm thinking they don't from what I can read.

Seeing games like skyline skaters have videos that play that are clearly more than just displaying a page. they have a timer that counts down. there seems to be some kind of validation that occurs to let the server know the person watched the full video and then grant the player whatever incentive the game developer wants to give for completing a video.

It just seems like this is a very specific / deeper thing than displaying an ad banner or a full screen static interstitial ad.

Is there any service out there that offers one of these video services? This article was interesting. http://developers.magmic.com/top-10-ad- ... ook-games/ Flurry seems to offer ads too, but all i see about flurry talk is analtyics in C2 forums.

Seeing it's a growing trend in popular games, it would be great to have a comprehensive thread that discusses this in depth. I can't imagine it's too much for Construct 2 to handle, but I'm not seeing any clear threads out there that discuss a solution for these kind of ads.

    Thanks!

    Caleb

  • Does anyone know if Interstitial ads from Admob are video ads or static? I should have followed up with this more specifically though i'm stoked to know at least full screen interstitial ads are possible at all, video is a hot ticket thing I'm finding people are looking for in games so its an important distinction.

  • ah ok good to know! I hadn't dug into AdMob yet. I just checked it out and yea that looks very straight forward.. man some exciting times ahead!

    Thanks!

  • Hi everyone,

So first of all I just wanted to say that it's been incredibly exciting to see how quickly super important features like IAP, iAds and more have become available for C2 / Phonegap. That said, we all know that interstitial ads are a big thing these days and from my forum searching I haven't come across anyone talking about interstitial ads and phonegap.

Games like skyline skaters https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skyline-skaters/id760645916?mt=8 for iOS is a great example of packing in as much ad revenue and F2P options as possible in a single game including a heavy reliance on video ads. Ideally it would be nice to know that we have all of those ad revenue tools at our disposal.

Does anyone know of any services out there that provide video ads that work with Construct 2? Maybe a coming soon feature?

    Thanks,

    Caleb

  • Ashley thanks for validating that. I did notice something.. i tested my video playback test web game http://part12studios.com/temp/Video_Test7/ on Safari with iOS8 and it seems video is still jacked up and not behaving as you'd expect.. do you know if this is just how things are going to be with iOS8 safari or something that might be addressable by C2?

nicmar try my game "bee active". it's done with ejecta for iOS.. it's also on a ton of other platforms and 100% free https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bee-act ... 49350?mt=8 and if you want to try the web version here http://part12studios.com/games/BeeActive/ to see what i'm talking about

while it might not look like much is going on.. there is a ton of parallax and a lot of things going on and if you die and let the game just go.. it will get hella fast..

bees, pollution, sun, clouds, mountains, rain, flowers, forest, about 20 blades of individual grass cycling.. everything moving at different speeds..

I'm pretty sure you can throw plenty of stuff around without trouble. as it stands phonegap sounds like it might not deliver top performance right now, but it also sounds like the bugs that exist are on the iOS side so theoretically the performance should improve as people update their phones.

However, if you're really pushing a lot of stuff around and it's absolutely necessary for your game to be fun, you might also just have to look into doing optimization (all engines require this, don't think this is unique to construct 2) like pooling assets to avoid a lot of create/destroy actions. Also keep in mind that this game is only doing pooling for grass.. rain and everything else uses "expensive" create /destroy events.

mobile requires planning and ever-conscious effort to be smart about how you do think regardless of the tech you use.

  • Ashley ok i see, so like ye olden Windows Phone 8 would rely on IE10 (i mean WP 8.1 is the same, just with IE11 and webgl support) , so is the same with iOS and Safari? That makes a lot of sense.

That said, does this mean that things like iframe and other services that rely heavily on a browser will work? I ask because services like Ejecta actually crashed when the iFrame plugin was included and Clay.IO as well..

I'm hoping yes because those are useful things to have when making a web game and ideally it would be great to think that finally there is a wrapper that offers full web function support. =D

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Hi everyone,

I was just wondering, now that phonegap (though apparently not quite perfect yet) is going to be the future of wrapping games for mobile and I'm super stoked to see this because i've dabbled some with PG/Android and it seemed like a decent solution.

However, I tried Clay.IO (an amazing service if you're making a web only game) with Eject and it didn't work (xcode crashed when testing/compiling) and XDK worked, but due to graphic size funkiness of android devices working with the fixed graphic sizes of Clay.IO resulted in login screens that couldn't be used on my galaxy s4 because the keyboard covered the login screen to enter a password..

    So..

I'm trying to understand what's better about phonegap and how universal is it? My understanding is that it is a better wrapper because it has all of the functionality of a browser, where services like XDK and CocoonJS did not. Things like iFrames would freak them out.

Has anyone tried Clay.IO with PhoneGap for iOS? will things like iFrames and other web-centric plugins and such work with phonegap? I just would love to know what the limits are if there are any. I understand performance is 100% yet, but that sounds like something that will be fixed soon enough.

    Thanks!

    Caleb

  • Ashley that is definitely our plan to just move forward with iOS8+ devices and I see some great new plugins coming out to support phonegap but when i read your initial iOS8 report with HTML5, I gathered that PhoneGap still has issues:

"PhoneGap cannot yet take full advantage of the new performance improvements, but this is likely to be fixed in a future update." from your blog post.

What are the known problems with phonegap with C2? What should we watch out for. are there specific things that don't work, is it just that we're not getting 100% performance so everything works perfectly except framerates?

    Thanks!

    Caleb

  • ok cool, thanks! I'll try that!

    Sincerely,

    Caleb
