• Hi Ashley, thanks for the reply and for taking the time to post here.

I appreciate what you are saying - this is the draw back when using third party components.

One of the things MS encourages with Win8 apps is a polished experience which the third party plugin provides very nicely.

I will resort to the built-in one if I have to, but reluctantly, because iunkn's has a couple of excellent features that give the metro-app experience a real boost and with all due respect, leave the built-in one wanting a great deal.

    Regards

    Michael

  • Hi all,

This is by far the best plugin for Win8!

However with the two latest releases - R124 and R125 - it appears to be broken:

    1) The Reset Game option no longer works - selecting Reset just closes Charms panel

    2) The In-App-Purchase test mode no longer works - selecting Purchase just closes Charms panel

    3) Using the back arrow on the Charms bar header just closes the panel

Does anyone else have the same problem?

  • Unfortunately the crashes are getting more and more prevalent.

For me, C2 will crash on exit almost EVERY time, and ALWAYS when using Photoshop at the same time.

And there is always this 'Placeholder Window' thing that happens when shutting down Win8.

There are also other random crashes while working with C2 that are well random, and only Task Manager can close the program.

I now always start Task Manager before firing up C2, and always save habitually, like whenever I make substantial changes in event sheets, when adding editing sprites etc., and definitely before previewing.

It's a bit annoying, but it seams there is no way to pinpoint what causes the crashes - I just count it as one of those work place hazards!

  • Ashley - got it - thanks for the clarification.

  • OK, sorry to labour this.

In my project each of the 40 levels(layouts)use some objects all the time - like background, players etc. Obviously these should be present on each layout, and thus can be easily arranged as required.

In addition I have several Particle objects(for various effects) and Sprite objects(bullets etc) that each layout uses periodically, but they are always created\destroyed when required. These all have the Destroy Outside Layout behaviour. - So would it be best practice to just have these on an AssetsLayout only and just create them when required in each LevelLayout for the game.

  • Hi spongehammer,

Yeah, that is similar to what I have been doing.

I was just curious as to the fact that the layouts that I have not added the object to still created the particle anyway....

  • Hi all,

this is just a general question that I can't seam to find a conclusive answer to.

I was under the impression that every layout had to have the objects it will be using, so in my project each layout has a hidden AssetsLayer for this purpose - no problems.

However I have decided to add a particle object to my game and was about to go through and add this object to each layout - again no problem.

So I tested this new particle object on the first layout to get the settings happening to my liking and I just thought I would see what happens on a layout that doesn't have the object added yet - and it works!

So this has prompted this topic.

While I am more than happy to add the object to each layout if I have to, the project has 40 levels so I'm just wondering if I do need to do it.

    Thanks for any input...

  • Ashley, I have spent all day creating\importing sounds in C2 and it seams short files were the problem.

I have been padding all files with silence so they are at least 00;00:001 in length and they all import correctly.

Thanks everyone for help and tips.

  • Good morning Ashley,

Thanks for the reply and tip.

The above mentioned file was 00:00:00 in lenght, I added some padding to make it 00:00:01 in lenght and it imported successfully.

I will keep that in mind and post back here later when I have completed a few more imports.

So it's true - you learn something new every day!

FYI: Free Audio Converter converts all the files to OGG and AAC without any problems.

    Thanks for your help.

That is exacrly the problem I am having. But the issue is not just with one particular file, but with almost every file I edit\create.

I have used a number of apps besides Audacity and the result is the same, so it is not Audacity.

The files are originally MP3 files I have recorded, then cleaned and trimmed, and saved as 16-Bit PCM 44100hz Wav files.

The weird thing is, if I convert the original files to Wav using Free Audio Conveter they import into C2 as expected.

But if I edit them, then C2 either freezes(almost every time), does not create the OGG file, or says the format is not recognised, when trying to import them.

At present it is looking like I will be unable to create my own audio files, which makes including credits for other peoples work a nightmare.

  • Ashley, format is 44100hz 16-bit PCM only 9kb in size.

  • Well spoke too soon!

Works sometimes, but have to drop hz to 8000 (looses much clarity of original file), and then it is hit and miss if C2 converts it successfully.
