  • I can only imagine the insane amount of badly designed crap the Windows teams have to shuffle through, especially for top tier programs (Adobe, heh) to make them compatible with the next version, and then to have all these anti-fanboys of sorts blame every single problem on Windows. Apple constantly breaks things even with smaller updates and apparently that's alright.

    I think given how many different configurations and applications Windows supports out of the box it's quite an amazing OS.

    Given that Windows is the most widely used OS on the planet (oh, hang on, just let me get my flak gear on.... hang on.... nearly done.... ok done....) and rightly so, MS really should force Apple to fix their bugs so that their software can run on a better OS than it was originally designed for - like no fix, no work, no revenue...

    uh oh, did I say better OS than mac!!! oops, darn it here comes the flaaaakkkkkk.........

  • I don't know if it makes sense, but here's a sincere feedback from a regular C2 user who sucks at math.

    The dt guide is very well written, and when you read it, you think(*dt) you understand it. I've read it, I don't know, maybe 50 or 60 times.

    But when you have to write tons of events, it would be so nice to have charts you can quickly reference to. Here on the forum, or even better inside C2.

    Something like this:

    lerp to an angle, use this:

    lerp to a position, use this:

    lerp to speed, use this:

    lerip to scale, use this:

    lerp to variable value, use this:

    every tick events: don't use if this and this. Use if this and this.

    every X second: don't use.

    I must sound super lazy to most of you, and I definitely understand this, but for average users it would be a freaking life saver.

    After reading this thread several times, the dt guide a dozen times, and Ashley's latest blog that arose from this thread several times, I now have this fuzzy feeling in my head and a real lack of confidence with both lerp and dt.

    All I know is that lerp gives nice smooth movement effect, and that dt is required for a game to be frame rate independant.

    But as to how, when, and even if they should be combined, well I would say the general target audience of C2 should just not use it.

    Hehe I reckon this is pobably the most confusing thread I have read on these forums.

    Really wish I paid more attention to math at school now....

  • Just a bit of feed back for those who deploy to the Windows Store.

    The W10 dev team seam hell bent on integrating the so-called metro interface with the desktop, which can be a nuisance and can even break some games (as in ruin game play).

    Window Size Problems

    The Windows8 plug used to have a Snapped mode which has now been deprecated. So now you have to use the Browser object to detect window size changes, to try to determine if the user has snapped your app, and if so pause the game.

    In W10 the window by default now displays the app in reduced screen size, and you can maximize it if you want (like you don't want to run a Windows Store app in full screen - go figure!). So if your game relies on the browser object to detect window size then you are going to have to tweak it a bit.

    Picture this scenario:

      Game starts in reduced window (not full screen) User then toggles full screen mode Your game now pauses (because window size has changed) Weird - not the desired result....

    Hopefully calling Browser.RequestFullScreen will solve this. Will have to try that.....

    Title and Task Bar Changes

    When the mouse hovers over the top of the screen the title bar is invoked (already in Win8.1) and the game loses focus.

    Similarly the Task bar now intrudes into Windows Store apps as well, so if you hover the mouse over the bottom of screen the Task bar pops up and again your app loses focus.

    So if your game is fast paced and uses mouse for input, you can easily lose when the mouse hits the top or bottom (or sides depending on your Task bar position) of screen.

    Conclusion

    So Windows Store apps already on the store may be broken to some extent. Now's the time to start fixing that...

  • Well if C2 dev is to continue it should not get new features added - well not just yet.

    I love C2, and really think Scirra are talented and awesome!

    But some of what is already present in this awesome engine needs some TLC.

    So my 2 cents:

      No more features, just fix what is currently broken, and improve the current feature set. Better to have a few features that are completely debugged and working as intended, than many features that have minor bugs, or need improvements. Do this until the engine as it currently stands is rock solid, then start adding more features....

  • I know Steam is popular but it does seam to break C2..... There have been numerous threads on theses forums where the problem is only related to steam versions of C2....

  • No C3 yet. Fix C2 first.

    No more features this year - just work on fixing bugs.

    For example Audio needs some attention. Music in particular. Some times looping music will just stop playing, but this cannot be reliably produced in order to file a bug report.

    The shadow feature needs work, and I'm sure others can list problems that they have encountered specifically that could do with some TLC.

    And then we have the many reported exporting issues.

    Ashley should make a game - that way he can experience some of the issues that only surface in complex projects, and can't be reproduced in simple capx files. And it will also provided some valuable insight for C2 developers into how this engine can best be utilised to get the best results.

    C2 is a great product with more than enough features to create great games. Why not stop adding features - and fix where broken and improve where needed - and make what is already there solid.

  • IE 11 is "jerking/lagging" the same as chrome.

    Steely - I haven't noticed this myself with IE 11. (Windows 8.1 64 bit).....

    Ashley, So is this a Chrome specific bug only, or an underlying problem with browsers\html5, or what.....?

    Anybody else noticed this on IE?

  • Hmmm, tis ok, another update to chrome should be out in a few months - maybe they will fix it then!

    Seams to me Google want to kill HTML5 gaming.

    Man this is really getting to be old hat!! We live in hope...
