  • Hi,

Glad that you were able to follow the progress of research I was doing into this field using C2.

In the end, I found a great solution using a hybrid of 2 other pieces of software to achieve great results. I plan on integrating C2 content using iframes to future websites for "game" oriented interactivity and will use the other software for the primary website construction.

Both software were very inexpensive (fifty AUD each) and are a great companion to C2.

The first piece of software is called WYSIWYG Web Builder. There are a lot of imitation web builders out there but the 1 that has it exactly like I wrote it was the 1 I downloaded. You don't have to even buy it really... you can use another WYSIWYG website creation software that's open source called KompoZer 0.7.7

I used that initially to delete the blueprints from out of my pages once I was happy with their layout.

Then for interactive panels where I wanted small file size (google crawable) content.. I added iframe elements and used

Hippo HTML Animator   to produce this content.

Hippo exported an animation that I tried to replicate using adobe flash and other SWF compilers as well in the long journey to find it at the smallest file size out of them all.

Using adobe and other flash exporters for the swf format .. I was able to produce a 214kb file

Using another HTML 5 animation software Quicker SWF Animator, I produced a 6 MB file

Using Hippo, I produced a 202kb file. I shocked me that it was slightly smaller than the SWF equivalent.

Anyway, hippo is still young in it's development but has a very active dev and community backing it which was helpful to me. If you're doing a single project, I'd recommend just grabbing a demo of it from their site and building the basic animation / interactive content with this.. you get 30 days before it becomes useless so if you're a fast worker, you'll get it all done before you need to even consider buying it should you be so inclined. I was so amazed I just had to own it haha.

AND... once that's done you can complete the interactivity by taking it above and beyond both of these pieces of software using Construct 2. Together all these 3 pieces of software allow the most creative ... NON-Programmers in the world to generate professional and fast loading content.

Man I love how technology has allowed all types of people to enter the brave new world of truly interactive web page development!

  • Yeah, maybe if we make a thread to appeal getting some kind of plugin developer's package, those in the community that are working on producing valuable plugins can access a developer set of tools.

  • Ok, that technique works. Is there a way to easily put in a scroll bar or make the content scale as the window scales.

Lastly, do we know what causes the sand shifting in an earthquake effect and is there a possible fix on the horizon for this?

thanks so much for helping out with this, it looks much better.. or at least it will if it stops shaking around.

  • I'll give that a shot and let you know how the results are

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Ok I just ran into a problem, I tried to place the following as my new Set innerHTML to

    "<span style="font-weight: bold;">Sportstar Screenprinting Tips and Useful Information</span>"

And I am getting the following error

Syntax Error Unknown Character   (it has the ; character in "...weight: bold;"

Once I change that semicolon to a colon, it moves the syntax error back to the second " which appears after the ..... <span styles="font..."

How can these be avoided as the example I reference is using very similar syntax as shown below :

    "<h3>Formatted text is a breeze</h3>

<p><img src=""http://www.w3.org/html/logo/badge/html5-badge-h-css3-semantics.png"" align=""left""> <strong>HTML5</strong> is a language for structuring and presenting content for the World Wide Web, and is a core technology of the Internet originally proposed by Opera Software.</p>"

  • I'm not sure if we need to use an actual .css file and somehow point to it in the CSS Style section or if we are able to simply type in CSS content.

Is there any chances that the shaking problem with the letterbox full screen setting can be fixed?

Is there a way to have multiple lines of text inside of the DIV and each line could be a different size / colour / font etc some parts centred and some left justified?

    [edit]

Actually I believe I may have just figured out how to do the different styles/fonts/alignments/colour etc... it's all done using the HTML DIV SET INNER HTML

then you just use html text formatting

    [EDIT]

There is also a piece of open source software that will allow you to produce html formatted content that can be placed inside of the DIVs

This software is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) so it's great for those of us wanting to avoid scripting and coding wherever possible.

The software is called : KompoZer

if you look for them in a google search you will want

    Kompozer .net

I would give the link but forum rules state that I am not yet allowed to due to my current rep not being over 500 so I do apologise for that.

  • I'm not sure that we are on the same page there as the improvements I mention would allow for a game developer to include better interactivity on projects embedded into websites *the DIVs that overlay with a transparent background for text*

The alignment and distribution tools would be an invaluable tool for speeding up workflow in the development of game GUI's and level content.

  • Yes, their decision to avoid supporting a more broad usage of the core software elements and functionality will likely baffle me for a long time to come but that is evidently their current standing point.

Even with these limitations, my goal is to find a way to include enough text to the site I have created so a google search for that business type in my local area will come up.. or at the very least a word for word of the business name

  • This is where my current progress has arrived at sportstarscreenprinting.com.au

I plan on further developing this site within Construct 2 contrary to Ash's advice, not as a sign of rebellion or unappreciation but as I do believe in the work they are doing and that with the previously mentioned adjustments crawling completed project's content will no longer be an issue.

I do wonder why each layout is not currently being exported as an individual html page as this would make the process a lot easier and would mean that the content did not have to be embedded in a single iframe.

**or at least the option to export projects in individual html files per layout**

Either way the tools mentioned will not only benefit the web developers using C2 but the entire community.

  • There are a lot of website models that do not fit well with the Construct 2 abilities currently being offered. In the future, this will likely change as they recognise the untapped market and ability to offer current users more features that are commensurate with the generation of websites.

  • I think that the hidden text attracts negative points from google, but at least google would be finding the website so that can't be the worst outcome ;)

    website is linked Below

    sportstarscreenprinting.com.au

  • Thank you very much for these replies, I'm feeling quite positive about the use of this software for the purpose I have assigned to it and this comes from the responsiveness of the staff (which for only 2 people) is really impressive as well as the supportive community.

Unfortunately I would not be able to build my website the way that you described it JayJay and this is due to it being one complete file. Once it is up running live, I am happy to post a link for those interested in viewing it to see.

It's nothing too special but I think it's a good example of how a website can be built within construct.

Luckily, there are many sites that already list businesses online through google so all we need to really do is post links to our site on these profiles that exist and it will direct traffic our way. As this area of the software is further developed, things can only get better.
