  • There have been some games similar to this in the past, and right now there's one selling on Steam called 'Game Dev Tycoon'. The original one I recall was called 'Software Star' on the ZX Spectrum.

I'm putting together something similar but I'm stuck on the most critical aspect of the game, and that's how to make the game development part both fun and relevant to the player's decisions. In SS, it's basically just a case of, the more time the player spends working on the game, the better the final product. It's not very much fun or challenging. GDT is a bit better, with levels for the player's skills in various departments, which is quite good, and a few nice little elements, but it's still not what I'm looking for. I do like the idea of player-skill levels, but what I also want to mix in, is the ability to 'research' levels by playing games (within the game) and reading books about programming (within the game).

What I can't work out, is how to make this fun in a game. I'm usually quite good with this sort of thing, but for some reason, I can't think of how to mix this together to make a fun game, about making games. Does anybody have any ideas, or have they played anything similar that might give me ideas? I suppose in some ways, it could be similar to construction style games, except here you're constructing a game instead of a building/country/whatever.

  • I don't suppose there's a way that I can get information back from the SWF file is there? It links and works fine, but there's a 'Start' button on it. I'd like my program to be able to react to that and close the window, then hop into my game? Probably asking a bit much, but let me know if it's possible

  • Looks like this might do the trick, it looks very good. Is there any documentation? I'm not sure what the link section is, presumably a direct web link to the file? Meaning I'll need to host the file somewhere seperately from the installed game?

Never mind, I've just realised there's a demo too, I can see how it works from there. Looks excellent, good job

  • It's only for desktop but I don't know the coding, so it'll be hard work. He only wants a splash-screen and 'More Games' button so I'm thinking it'd be easier to just code them in if he'd be happy for both to just point to his main games page (browser - go to url option should do the trick).

  • I told them that. I wasn't sure if it was possible to add Flash api's into the finished exported code or something?

  • I've got a publisher that wants to install a splash-screen and a 'More Games' button into my game and this requires a couple of API's, but I have no idea where to start. There are 3 files, 'Fla', 'Swc' and 'swf' (Flash, something, Shockwave Flash?). Possibly the same file in different formats?

Anyway, how do I get started with this? Anyone know where I can read a tutorial or something to get me on track?

  • Thanks, yes it works when uploading and turning adblock off, thanks

  • Trying this addon again, am I right in saying that the ads never show in preview mode? Or do I need to do something to make the ads show? I've dragged a bar (480 x 150) onto my title screen and I get a big black bar where the ads should show. It seems right, just no ad showing. Do I need to do something else or is it just because I'm previewing on C2?

  • I've used Clay.io and they're very good and easy to use, but I need to specifically use Mochiads or CPMStar, but I don't think it's possible to directly use either with C2? Or has anybody managed to implement them?

  • Just wondering if either of these are compatible with a C2 game? I'm fairly sure that Mochiads isn't, because it's Flash only right? Is there some way to implement the Mochiads code into a finished C2 game? How about CPMStar? I haven't used them before, so not sure if that's Flash only.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I'm trying to test my project on all browsers. It works on all but C2 keeps saying it can't detect an Opera installation, even though I've just installed it from scratch. Is it something I'm doing wrong or a bug/error of some kind?

  • Thanks, dunno what I was doing wrong but it fixed now. Think I'd spent so much time fixing it that I'd just broke it further, so I just rewrote that part from scratch and now it works fine.
