Awesome documentation on your AJAX example, thank you!

  • Acissathar That could be a good one

  • An mmorpg on pc/mac where the skill system was always completely accessible, except that skills had enormous learning curve. For example, learning to jump would be easy, and would only require hitting a given key to perform the action. But learning to fly would initially be practically impossible, in that it would require outstanding keystroke consistency and complexity; however, the more one flies, the easier the task becomes, quite literally, via means of gradually less difficult commands. This would work the same way for every skill in the game, where players would literally have to become more and more skilled themselves with a keyboard to advance in the game. Changes would take place gradually, and be dynamically interconnected (i.e. skills requiring comparable actions could compliment one another); there would be no levels so-to-speak, though progression could be documented by degrees of mastery in each skill.

Remember, each skill would become easier, but start out very challenging to perform, and would have to be learned in-game (i.e. no instruction manual), via NPCs and other means. The control system would be very intricate, allowing for combat to be extremely dynamic.

Outside of all this, the world should be of a futuristic fantasy sort, though not necessarily to an extremely. Engineering should also have an extensive system construction.

  • Yeah, I haven't had time to delve into it too deeply yet but I've toyed with it and rummaged the forums; I'm confident that it's a quality FSM. I got a free copy of uScript also, but haven't gotten to test that out yet. It'd be great if either of them had nice websites and communities to go along with them; right now they're just good tools waiting to be used without much social structure around them.

    Horray!

  • I don't know about this idea. I feel like there are much better aptitude test formats that could be used to identify potential shortcomings in understanding code structure.

I think a seminar that introduces the fields of study that you'd offer would be a better "test". Students can remark upon their perceived comfort level with the concepts and workflows introduced to them, as well as their level of interest. Ultimately, I think these things would better determine who should study a given field or not.

Keep in mind that men without legs have climbed mountains. Determination is key. If they really want to be a game creator, they'll get good at being a game creator. These students are already eligible to be in the university, so very likely they aren't so cognitively impaired that they simply cannot succeed.

Finally, C2 definitely has potential for use educational for aspiring game devs. And it's my understanding it also has been used in the classroom.

Curious, is the reason that a C2 website would have similar disadvantages as a flash website because of the canvas framework?

I really want an event driven web development tool :) And yes, I understand that C2 is not it.

  • Hey guys, I'm looking for a few people who play borderlands 2 [PC] and/or torchlight 2. None of my friends around where I live play PC games, and I figured this would be a decent place to try to get a few players to meet.

I'm not all that active, but I like to play one of those games for a little while some nights US eastern time.

    Let me know!

I have a cool rhythm game called "Sequence", and it dynamically utilizes 3 arrow sets interchangably. Each set has a feature to it.

To be honest, I think I had the second set come into the scene almost accidentally. I was designing the scene and knew I needed more than just one set (since I planned to have the game be landscape or square at thinnest). So I threw in an extra set, decided it could be used for multiplayer (2 players - 1 keyboard), and just went with it. Then I decided that, since I don't expect to be creating any more songs, that I would start the song off easier and make it get more difficult to try to give the best of both worlds.

So that's the story. If the game becomes popular, I may re-code it to make it so that additional songs and difficulty levels can be utilizes. Likewise, I may release an open version (free .capx) so that offers can expand upon it or use the events for their projects.
