  • You're welcome Sheepy -- thanks for acknowledging :)

  • Picroma Plasma seems like a really useful tool ... but my personal requirements are for a tool that matches my simple pen and paper sketching behaviour. I just want to produce simple sketch art, nothing fancy.

I may be wrong but Picroma Plasma, and a lot of vector applications, seem to involve creating 'guide lines', then tugging at handles, etc.

To me, this is not like sketching with a pen and paper.

I think there is a gap in the market for this type of simple application, just as there was a gap for wireframing applications a few years ago. In the meantime, SVG editor looks decent.

  • Having appealing graphic is extremely important on mobile games.

My own approach to the display of my android game was simply to do a lot of testing -- trial-and-error -- and to try and make it good at least on the devices I was testing with.

This is maybe off-topic, but the game icon is also incredibly important, as are all of the related game promotion graphics.

I personally think it's worth spending a lot of time getting the icon and the associated game graphics looking as slick as you possibly can.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Hey thanks for all the good suggestions guys.

I'm a PC user (someone has to be!) so that limits me unfortunately :(

Out of all of these, I'm still leaning towards SVGedit because it seems to have the lowest learning curve. That is what I want!

  • Thanks for the tips guys!

chrisbrobs - SVGedit looks most like what I'm looking for, but actually I found your C2 version way more intituive to use than the original.

I'm really confused though -- is your C2 version a duplicate of SVG done using C2? Please forgive the dumb question, I'm a relative newbie and definitely not a developer...

  • Can anyone suggest any alternatives to Adobe Illustrator for creating vector artwork?

I'm thinking something as easy to use as Balsamiq Mockups , for drawing characters and other objects in my simple games for kids.

I want to create prototype games with artwork that is 'sketchy' -- the way I would draw it on pen and paper.

I'm not a graphic designer but I can sketch like most people. If one of the prototypes has potential, I can always request 'real' artwork from a professional.

I can use Photoshop but I don't think it's a drawing tool and I've just never found Illustrator intuitive.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hey thanks for the really detailed explanation I haven't had an issue with my game in Galaxy s3 but I have noticed a minor issue in s2.

I am going to compare my settings against what you suggest. Maybe you should make this into a tutorial?

  • 3division I am sure you are right about the different type of devices. What I did for now was to make a really simple game -- a child's puzzle type game.

Actually I didn't have much choice. I am such a beginner that I couldn't make anything more advanced :) My skill was related to the user experience, which I hope is okay on my game.

Since my game is not complex, it loads quickly on the Galaxy s2 and s3 and an Archos tablet -- a budget device I bought for experimenting.

Until the technology improves I will stick to simple games. In fact, the technology will probably improve faster than I am able to develop my C2 skills :D

  • Thanks ludei -- I can wait a few weeks or so!

  • Hi sicetix ... in the end, I followed the steps of the tutorial as far as I could.

I managed to decompile the app and remove the xml signs

But I did not understand how to recompile the app

The tutorial was unclear about this. I originally signed my app using a keystore file I created by following the ludei tutorial ... I do not understand how to re-sign the app...

  • I can't speak about iPhone games but I bought Construct2 in order to create a simple game for kids on Android.

And a few days ago I achieved my goal :D

  • Thanks for the replies guys.

The tutorial on decompiling the apk looks far too complicated and scary for me. It took me so long to get my app working in the first place, that I don't want to risk messing it up.

I guess I will have to wait and hope that ludei gives us this option in the future...
