  • If i am targeting Desktops / Laptops only for my games / interactive book apps, can i feel free to use large background images (1024x768)x 32 scenes, and will i have any issues with large animated sprites 200x200 plus?

I know that iPad memory is improving all the time too and i would like to target that device assuming Safari browser could handle C2 creations.

    Thanks

  • Thank you everyone for your feedback.

I am hoping that soon, someone will be able to showcase their interactive book app and therefore set a benchmark for future projects of a similar nature. I might need a developer partner until i can master C2. Been looking at Stencyl too, bit it also hasn't got anything to showcase either other than 2D games. C2 definitely seems the easier user-friendly option and being HTML5, it's definitely the future as devices become more powerful and memory isn't such an issue.

  • Thanks again folks! maybe i should take a closer look at C2 before giving up. I am hoping to create an interactive app with similar behaviours to this one as seen on youtube demo video

I'd love to know if you think Construct could create such interactivity.

  • Thanks for your replies guys.

I really want to use C2 and support Scirra as they're from my home town of London. <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Try Construct 3

  • Hi folks.

After reading forum replies over these last months, i see that C2 was and is specifically made for 2D games. As an illustrator / Designer i was hoping to use it to create a 20 - 32 page illustrated book app for iPad, with animated sprites and other interactivity.

I now know this is an impossibility because it's clear from many forum answers that tiled backgrounds are the way to go with backgrounds. There is little mention of large static backgrounds in particular, ones that would be appropriate for iPad retina display. And yet such apps have been created for iOS and Adroid for iPhones, iPads Tablets etc weighing in at well over 200mb. But i guess they have been developed with something like Cocos 2D or other native SDK. I am disappointed because C2 is so easy for a non developer like me. I have also looked at Stencyl and again, forum replies are mixed and vague - some saying it's doable and others saying it could be achieved.

I appreciate 99.9% of C2 users are here for 2D Games, and so it seems i have to look at Corona SDK or Gideros Mobile.

Before i make a final farewell to Scirra, i'd appreciate any feedback that might change my mind, but only if my above usage is doable.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

  • Thanks Ghost but couldn't find anything under that search.

  • Hi folks!

I am working on an interactive story book for kids. Please can someone tell me what is the best way to slide a new page into the background and ensure that the previous background image is destroyed so as to avoid memory bloat. I have a next page button and prev button. Clicking on either loads (slides) main background image in from left or right. I might consider other effects like fade in if it's easier.

    Any help appreciated thanks!

  • Thanks Ashley and apologies for the typo.

  • Hi folks.

I want to publish an interactive educational book app for kids. It will be FREE and i've decided to bypass appstores and just go Freegan by making it available from my site for viewing from any desktop, laptop or ipad.

Will i still need to consider large file sizes and sprite dimensions if i am not targeting mobiles? And will i still need to use cocoonjs or appmobi to improve framerate etc.

    Thanks in advance <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Thank you everyone for your helpful answers. Seems like there are a few good options here. My main concern with C2 now is how well i can use large animated sprites as i am looking at interactive children's book apps rather than games and i know this is unexplored country and maybe not something C2 was ever designed for. There are memory issues with large background files on mobile - maybe 20 plus 1024px - but i am thinking of just targeting iPad and kindle fire which should be ok.

  • Thanks Newt. I have Texture Packer lite version. Haven't used it yet. Will take a look at Spriter.

  • Hi C2 Folks!

Today marks the 85th birthday of the late great illustrator and children's writer Maurice Sendak. Google search engine have honoured him with a very nice animated wheel depicting many of his characters.

    Could this be achieved with C2? <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />
