  • I've looked at several sample capxs and can't seem to get the behavior I want out of my enemy. I just want him/her/it to patrol back and forth in a particular area. I set up some sprites to act as collision points to make them turn, but it just doesn't seem to be doing what I want.

    Anyone? Thanks!

  • Thanks Kyatric. I'm not sure I ever would have figured that out! I was scouring the attributes and variables menus to no avail. :)

  • Hey everybody.

I think I may be an older person on this forum, but that's ok with me, as long as I'm learning. :)

I'm a husband, father, musician, teacher and I work in a computer lab at a middle school. I love my job and am hoping to include a section of my class on basic video game design. I've tried other programs but they've seemed too complicated, this is the first I've found to be mostly user friendly. This forum has also already been very helpful! Thanks!

In my spare time (not much) I write a ton of music. You can find some of it here at New Cool Now Music

I write silly and fun songs and more serious "indie folk" (Elliot Smith meets Sufjan in a bar and hugs him gently) type music.

I've written music for a few video games before, but I'm not much of an electronic type of musician, though I can do a lot with just Garageband and a midi-keyboard.

Here's the first game I'm working on now. My First or Second Game Attempt It's a capx file.

    Thanks for the love everyone.

    Peace,

    Steve

Here's a picture of the screen. I'm not sure how to make the "not equal to". where is that? Thanks!

  • Thanks, Katric!

The problem I have is I don't even really know the terminology yet. I'm babystepping. :)

  • Here's my capx:   http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6990704/test6.capx

I just want my "monster_1" to move back and forth in the area they are currently residing in. Not sure how to make that happen.

I realize this program doesn't require any "programming" but it sure does require some logic. I'm not as logical as I may need to be for this, but I am trying to learn.

    Thanks for your help all!

  • Ok. I looked at the links, but they're not doing exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking to have monsters move back and forth (sort of mario bad guys minus the jumping). How do I do that?

    Thanks.

  • And how do I make my monsters move in a platformer environment?

    If I haven't said THANKS already...THANKS!!!

  • Ha! That was accidental...but I DID actually but a hidden tunnel in the water on the far left so you can get out and start that section over.

So, how can I have my hero respawn now?

  • Gotcha. Then just change it in the left menu.

Alright. Here's my "cavern" with full functionality and even a few secret entrances. Now, how do I add a badguy or girl to rescue? How do I add dangerous elements like lava? Spikes? What behaviors do I give these items? Thanks!

    Here's the current map: dl.dropbox.com/u/6990704/test4.capx

I've added lava and it "destroys" my "hero" when he touches it. Is there a way to have a one or two second pause and then have my hero reappear at the starting point?

Also, is there a simple way to create a "respawning" object?

  • vtrix,

how do you move your player to the main layer?

    silly question? :)

  • So, here's what I've got so far.

Is it a backwards way of doing it?

I've basically just created a brown sprite that I'm dragging out to make all of my walls and floors solid.
