  • Hi guys...

I've got a severe issue after finally getting getting into and out of a car working properly, but after this it had the consequence of causing all sorts of anomalies with the driving behaviour.. for instance some of the things that have started happening are.

    Stuttering movement

    Sometimes very very slow

    "Catches" invisible edges

Poor smoothness which seems like low-FPS

Previously the car driving mechanics felt very nice and smooth... now it is unplayable and unbroken.

Here is a video of the issue -

  • Hey guys - Musician and Game Designer here, started using Construct 2 about 8 days ago and am really loving it, although I am running into a lot of glitches that I cannot seem to understand why/how they are occuring... and I can't seem to get any help in the "How Do I..." forum.

If any kind experienced C2 users would be up for having a look at my friend I would be most appreciative.

The glitch is related to car behaviour and collisions - but is also causing stuttering/laggyness for unexplainable reasons.

    Thanks!

  • Anyone? Need to get my rep up so I can post the video...

  • Can't post link yet so here is the main part of the URL if anyone is kind enough to see if they can give me a hand?

Thanks, I'd be so grateful if someone can help me out here.

  • I'm sure there must be tutorials out there without having to limit yourself to any one "method" or prebuilt set-up etc... Try and word you're request differently on the tutorials search and you might find something that will help you.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Hi there guys, have been spending ages tweaking the "GTA style get into car" tutorial to suit my needs, and to be able to leave the vehicle without destroying and recreating my player object.

Anyway, I finally worked it out through a lot of guess work and trial and error (still not sure what exactly solved it), but now my car has a lot of wierd glitches happening while driving such as...

    Stuttering movement

    Sometimes very very slow

    "Catches" invisible edges

Poor smoothness which seems like low-FPS even though FPS is still 28-30fps... (acts like it's about 5fps)

Previously the car driving mechanics felt very nice and smooth... now it is unplayable and unbroken.

Also, im just wondering how to set the collisions so my characters head can be seen over the vehicle if I am behind/under it... but not have my feet/legs be able to go ontop of the car when I am infront/above the vehicle.

    Thanks

Love this engine, but lots of these little bugs that occur are really frustrating, I hope someone knows what the issue is, I am sure it is just poor "programming" in the events page... I will attach a video and a screenshot of my "Events" page.

  • Ok I finally managed to get the player to spawn back outside the vehicle through some guesswork/trial and error... but now there are some wierd "physics" issues when I am in the vehicle, such as it stuttering, and seeming like it is colliding with stuff when there is nothing around it... and sometimes when I re-enter the vehicle it goes very very slowly...

I am restart a new thread since my issue is different now.

  • Looking good there mate, nothing wrong with GTA 1&2 look.Perhaps you should go with this top-down look now, and after completing it, if u'r still passionate about it, make a sequel with the more complex graphics.

Thanks a lot man , yeah I think that is what I will stick with, and yeah I was planning to do a 3D sequel in CryEngine 3 next year or so, quite funny you sort of guessed haha.

Cheers, take it easy and good luck with your project!

  • Synchronic my solution to this problem was when entering the car was to destroy the player object and when leaving the car to spawn another one on an image point next to the car.

Try this and see if it resolves your issues

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I've seen that work around already, but this game is an RPG which will feature a player inventory etc... and apparently this causes the loss of any items attached to the player etc...

I'm sure what is going wrong is that the player sprite is not pinning to the car when entering, and is only becoming invisible, so that when I leave the vehicle and the player becomes visible again, he is still in the same place as he started because he was never properly pinned to the car in the first place.

    Anyone have any thoughts/tips?

    Thanks

  • Youre going for something that looks a bit like this ?As it happens, i just today scratched my head off with how to make isometric maps and finally got something going. So if this is the style you're going for, you need to set up your layer to something like grid width: 32 grid height:16 and check snap to grid (this can be done in the "view" section. After that, you need a tileset that works with the grid. for instance, the tiles in the pictures are 64x32

Hope thats of any help, i just about shot myself trying to get this damn thing to work.

Nice stuff, I was initially thinking about trying to isometric route, and I would have liked it but I decided to go for "3/4" top down view where its pretty much straight on, but with some not necessarily correct tilting to provide depth/perspective.

I've ended up giving up on trying to give the vehicles or anything rotating the false perspective angled look... just gone with old school GTA 1 + 2 birdseye view for any non-static vehicles like this... Thanks anyway though! It's a complex thing that I think needs some mathematics, which is my weakest point by far

  • EDIT: Player seems to not be being pinned to the car correctly.
