The problem is you are using the "build in font" of your PC and this doesn't exist on your mobil. You could import a web-font or use a sprite font so that is always the same font, independently of the device or use BBCode like:

"Jimmy looked down, and he saw a witch!"&newline&"He froze in silence, and didn't [background=#ffff00]move[/background] an inch."

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't all what you need getSelection() or window.getSelection().toString();?

So alert(getSelection()); should give you the selected text?

It should be working inside the tags. This "[scale=2]Hello \[scale] [/scale]" gives me "Hello [scale]"

You need it only if you have open and closed brackets like: \[] or \[hello]

Either you have set the origin of your sprite in the upper left corner or you have to set your sprite in the middle of the viewport. At the Moment you set the middle of your sprite in the upper left corner of you viewport.

Try to change the 'Position Iterations' in the 'Set stepping iterations' in the physic-behavior of your flipper-sprite and/or your ball-sprite to a bigger value. Maybe that helps.

Could someone with Safari test this:

It works just fine with FireFox on this Mac.

Can someone confirm that it doesn't work?
