  • For a while now, I've noticed that my game runs very poorly at low framerates. It becomes basically unplayable at anything less than 45fps, mainly because of the collision issues.

I'd really like the game to be at least playable at lower framerates, and this could be fairly easily achieved by having the game slow down instead of 'dropping frames'. Technically, this could easily be achieved by allowing us to cap dt at a lower value in the project settings - currently, it's capped at 0.1 I believe, which is crazy high. I'd probably cap it at 0.03 or 0.02 (60fps dt = 0.016) for optimal gameplay.

Is there a reason this can't be implemented?

  • About to go live with some level design! http://www.twitch.tv/indiemegabooth

  • DatapawWolf I did that at one point, but the issue is it seemed like it was eating up so much bandwidth by constantly uploading every time I saved... I dunno though, I guess the case is the same if you're doing backups there too?

  • Aha, you're probably on to something. My backup directory is in Dropbox, and my machine definitely isn't the best (win7 64bit).

Not backing up to dropbox is very dangerous though so I really don't want to stop doing that.

  • Should be streaming again this evening!

  • All right, so I guess it's probably not C2's fault then? I've NEVER seen the error without C2 being up, which leads me to assume it's some sort of contributing factor? Could be a coincidence I suppose.

  • Problem Description

Every now and then, C2 crashes with this box popping up:

(Sorry for the picture quality, I had to take it with a phone camera because I couldnt take a screenshot!)

This seems to happen after C2 has been minimized and brought up again. Clicking either of the available buttons simply makes the dialogue box pop up again immediately. There's no way out of the crash without restarting the PC - somehow it even stops ctrl-alt-del from working.

Not much idea unfortunately. I know this isn't very helpful but I thought I'd report it because it seems to hang the OS.

  • A web build is not an option - it lacks authenticity and most of all it disallows distribution like Steam. Plus, there are a bunch of Chrome bugs involving music loading that flat-out prevents a Chrome build for me.

  • We really need some way to put pressure on the NW people, or even get someone working on our own fixes (it's open source, right?) because this is ridiculous.

  • Agreed - I'd definitely like to see an option to slow down the game instead of increasing dt.

  • Contrary to (weirdly widespread) belief, number of layouts has NO effect on performance. Number of variables shouldn't either (unless you're up in the millions) but for the case you're talking about, you need to use a data structure such as webstorage or an array, just for convenience purposes.

  • That sounds awesome!
