  • I did not really understand Rich's example, but the timeline stuff seems very interesting! Thanks Aldo!

  • It worked for me, just copied in the effect folder and it is available (using Classic r1.2)... a question, though: when I change the effect, it applies it to all instances of my object, is there a way to apply it to only one of them?

  • OK, thanks for the feedback!

I just drawn roughly the world, my entire game area is 15,000 x 3,000, so 20,000 x 20,000 is good!

10,000 objects but reuse the same sprites and use tile background... Does it mean that I can have as many sprites on my screen as I want, as long they are instances of the same object or tile? Only the source object matters or their number on screen will impact the overall smoothness still?

Does the size of the object matters? Is it better to use a single big object or of a lot of small ones?

  • Try Construct 3

  • I am planning to do an open space 2d platformer... and I want to make things BIG.

For example, going through the desert to reach to the big town, huge buildings, a mountain in the middle... But I wonder, how big can things be?

Is there a maximum space size that Construct can handle?

Can I do the whole game in one space? Can I do some kind of progressive loading and make the game "forget" what is not on sight? Or do I need to create dividers?

If I create big foreground or background objects, does it take more memory than small ones?

Basically, what do I need to know or test before I start drawing everything?

  • I read about .ini files with all dialogues inside or something, not sure how to handle it, though.

I will follow this topic closely, I will have a LOT of dialogues to implement later in my game!

  • Deadeye did a .cap that can help for that, you may see the topic here :

  • Anger comes usually with a lack of confidence, or in a way, over caring about others' opinion of you, being seen attacked by a public, or caring about what the attacker may think. Basically, if you don't care, you walk away and don't give a damn anymore, if you care, it angers you and will keep you angry for days/months/years...

Video games won't help with these issues, as they give very fast reward to little challenge, they give a fake response to difficulties. You feel good about achievements, but the progression of these achievements is actually done to be progressive and never challenge you enough to be frustrating (think WoW here). Real life difficulties are never progressive, often unfair, and reacting angrily actually tend to add more problems on top of them.

So... It all comes to know yourself, and when you feel it coming, stop it. Because you actually enjoy the anger, letting it go against someone makes you feel powerful, free and in control... you have to get onto it and try to think long term to get rid of the addiction, and that's far from easy.

I got few books on the topic (living with a ready-to-explode person is not something all women are willing to pull through), I will get back the references and post here. Act on it when you are young, i guess it makes it much easier.

    Back to basics!

  • I don't really get it, insulting people to promote your games?

Is it some kind of reverse marketing?

  • What brings traffic? Word of mouth! if they like what they see, they will stay and promote.

Basically anything that you feel confident to speak about regularly, with something new/interesting every time...An original content, with one strong theme and little variations around this theme, updated regularly, with a consistent quality of writing/shooting/other, and a reactive/entertaining feedback to comments and visitors.

Getting few writers together may also be a good thing to get variety over a same topic, like http://indiegames.com/index.html (word of mouth, you see ^^)

  • It still works for me, you may try to download the latest flash player (for me it shows flash 10.3.181...)

  • I have never been attracted to "real games" on handheld... few hours on gaming on a bed brought me little joy, battery life issues, and joint pain. My DS is more than enough for 15 minutes breaks or short travels, and I have a PC that is very good at everything it needs to do.

I don't plan to get the 3DS though, bigger size and 3d defeat the casual usage for me.
