system pick by uid enemypath with uid = 4
If there is an enemypath-object with uid = 4, that event should pick it..
add a condition "is not flashing" (is flashing inverted) to the events that harm your player?
Construct has the "load image from url" option, which might suit you..
Just add the images as project files and load them into your sprite(s) when needed..
Probably because no layout is selected and the program therefor doesn't know which layout to start..

Well if there's is I haven't found it so I guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing, it's just kind of annoying because with what I'm working on I'll have to do that a lot

You have character spacing set to 3, so setting that to 1 would visually be the same..
