  • Well whaddayouknow, I AM feeling pretty dumb right now! Thank you both!

  • Here's a small problem I'm fairly confident could be solved in an instant and that'll leave me feeling really dumb staring at the obvious answer. Anyways,

I wish to create a platformer that allows rocket jumping, this meaning that when the Player fires a projectile at his feet the ensuing explosion propels the character backwards to the opposite direction. As Construct's behaviour mechanics are fairly versatile I'm quite confident it could be done in just a few events with the platform behaviour.

I've got a .cap here. It contains a layout with a simple room and a player character. Left clicking fires a rocket, and when said rocket hits a wall it creates an explosion and also a sort-of blastwave. The latter is an object with a bullet behaviour, set to target the player. When this object hits the player it sends him flying through the air in the same angle... Or that's what should happen, problem being I don't know how exactly this could be achieved. I guess it could be done with the action "set X, Y component of motion" in the player's platform behaviour but I have no idea how to calculate the angle or force for this.

    Download the cap here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/3ppxl9

I know this is possibly the simplest stuff but man if I'm not having a hard time with it. Can this even be done with just the platform behaviour or do I have to set up a custom movement of sorts? Help me out!

  • Heh, quite the game indeed

Go to Project tab and add the sounds to the Files folder - they will be stored inside your project just like the graphics. Then use Play Resource.

There are also Music and Sounds folders there, but those apparently don't work yet.

Wonderful, thank you so much! Somehow I never noticed the files folder before, but now everything works perfectly!

So here's a new less-hassle-needed-version, also includes a bugfix or two. If you couldn't get sounds working previously, try dis:

  • Relatively well-known WRC legend Tommi M?kinen has challenged you to a drag race! And you must accept! I mean - look at that guy, can't say no to those dreamy eyes!

    <img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/2m5o660.png">

Tommi Maekinen Drag Racing Challenge is a game about racing fast cars and managing your speed and engine temperature in addition to NOT hitting anything on the way to the finish line. Sure, mowing down those rabbits is tempting but that may cost you the sweet, sweet victory. And Tommi will nag about it for the rest of your life. Because that's the kinda guy he is.

Gameplay is simple, the only thing you need is arrow keys and occasionally the enter key. Even the menus are fully keyboard-controllable so you can finally sell that useless mouse on eBay! I have no idea how taxing the game is on older systems, but figure that anything built after 1993 should run it just fine.

Oh, and the game features 100% authentic voiceovers by Tommi M?kinen himself. Yeah.

Both of these file sharing sites kind of suck, so If anyone knows a better, relatively simple upload site please let me know! You will be rewarded (no actual reward)!

(Also can someone point me to a tutorial on how to get soundfiles actually embedded in the .exe? Because I've seen it done and this 'separate folder for sounds' -stuff is a bit cumbersome.)

    Anyway, enjoy the game!

  • In case you haven't noticed, it's christmas time! I know! I didn't notice myself until a bearded man dressed in red came to me on the street, punched me in the face and demanded that I made a little game to celebrate the holidays!

So here you go, Christmas From Above is a mildly challenging action game in which you foil Santa Claus' evil scheme of giving away free stuff by shooting down the christmas presents he drops form a passing jet-powered flying sled. The gameplay concept has absolutely not been stolen from Missile Command. In fact, I have never even heard of Missile Command!

Download the game here (~5 mb .zip archive), extract the included files and play!

    http://www.mediafire.com/file/tkttcn5rt ... mAbove.zip

And while it loads, take a look at these screenshots provided in a nifty clickable link form:

    http://i45.tinypic.com/2ewl53n.jpg

    http://i50.tinypic.com/30x8t4y.jpg

Brief instructions: Anticipate the movement of the parachuting christmas presents, aim your anti-air missile system with the mouse and click to fire. Score points by blowing up those obviously evil boxes before four of them reach the ground. Gain huge combo bonuses by taking down multiple bogeys in one shot.

    Merry Christmas and have fun!

  • Hahahah I lol'd IRL

Also, I compiled the thingy in 7 parses... >.>

Then post it, why let a perfectly good .cap go to waste?

  • This thread? http://forums.somethingawful.com/showth ... id=3096413

I posted a thread about Construct on SA over a year ago but the consensus was pretty much "I'll wait until it's done."

Oh and yeah, that is me that guy's referring to, and yeah I'm a goon . I hardly ever post at SA any more though.

I got here from your original thread, actually. And that guy referring to you in the other thread? Yeah, that's me.

So, uh, hi and thanks for introducing me to Construct

  • Something Awful forums, of all places.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • There's also a Crimsonland-style minigame there. It's not very well hidden, but apparently no one has noticed it. I used to play it whenever I got frustrated with Construct or something

I think it's easier to trigger on debug mode than to stumble upon said minigame, and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to go the other way 'round. Huh.

  • Oh hey you posted this before I got to fix the minigame scoring system. You know, so that it actually works. Let's hope nobody notices...

Edit: Welp, looks like you fixed it. Awesome.
